Last night, City Manager Maraskeshia Smith and I joined the North Natomas Community Coalition for a town hall.
With all the development and major projects coming to Natomas, it was great to hear community feedback firsthand!

$3M+ secured (thanks @repdorismatsui !) and the Stitch Project kicks off!
This edition of #KeepingUpWithKevin dives into how the project will reconnect downtown to the riverfront over I-5 & transform a barrier into a connector with green space & safe pedestrian & bike routes!
I’m proud to announce $3,150,000 in federal funding to help launch the Sacramento Stitch Riverfront Reconnection Project.
Where I-5 runs through Sacramento once stood thriving communities—Japantown, the West End, families, small businesses, culture, and connection. That history was torn apart when the freeway divided downtown from the riverfront.
We cannot undo that harm. But we can choose what comes next—reconnecting what was divided and creating a future that brings people together.
That’s what this project is about.
This past Friday, the Sac Semester interns had the opportunity to sit down with Mayor McCarty and his team to discuss key issues impacting Sacramento. They talked about his time in the Assembly before becoming Mayor, the priorities his office is tackling this year, and even shared some of the interns’ favorite things about Sacramento.
Mayor McCarty is a proud alum of the Sacramento Semester Program, and has played a major role in shaping and supporting the program into what it is today!✨

To balance our 2026/2027 Budget, we will have to make tough choices, but through the hard work of our staff, the thoughtful direction of Council, and City Manager Maraskeshia Smith’s leadership, we have found solutions that have the least impact to our neighborhoods, city services, and employees.
