#ad Designers know how draining it can be to navigate subjective aesthetic perspectives. Still, the best outcomes are rarely achieved in alone, but through collaboration. With this in mind, the exhibition “Shared Matter”, presented by the Swiss Arts Council @prohelvetia_design in partnership with Presence Switzerland, brings together emerging Swiss designers and studios, each collaborating with experts from different fields and cultural backgrounds. 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 at Milano Design Week 6/6 Presenting Vera Roggli + Julia Villamonte Project: Sapin-Sapin Handwoven from karagumoy leaves, the project takes form through a process that follows material cycles and local knowledge. The leaves can only be harvested at specific moments in the year; production moves accordingly, not by external timelines. Developed with weaving communities in Labo, in the province of Camarines Norte, the work is grounded in shared practice. Techniques are learned in person, through repetition and presence, and decisions emerge through continuous exchange. The resulting object is a multifunctional mat, folding into a low seating element, unfolding for rest, or acting as a spatial divider. Flexible in use, it reflects the conditions of its making. « 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 at Milano Design Week 5/6 Presenting Silvio Rebholz Project: Paper Glasses A disposable object, reconsidered through time, knowledge, and material sensitivity. Paper Glasses by @silvio.rebholz rethinks the disposable through material, craft, and exchange. Made from 3D-moulded paper and coated with beeswax, the project proposes a biodegradable alternative to single-use plastic cups. Its translucent quality recalls glass—bringing back a sense of care, tactility, and attention to something typically used and discarded. Developed during a Pro Helvetia residency in China, the project moves between regions and traditions of papermaking, shaped through close collaboration with craftspeople in Yunnan. Each step draws on local material knowledge, fibre techniques, and making cultures. Between Switzerland and China, the project finds its structure: one context offering a framework for testing and refinement, the other a depth of craft and material understanding. It is within this exchange that Paper Glasses takes form. Hall Lamp by @pantertourron explores how industrial processes can shape form, surface, and atmosphere. Crafted from an extruded aluminium pipe, the floor lamp is defined by its gradient anodisation treatments, subtle shifts in colour that emerge through collaboration with @bwbsurfacetechnology . Each finish reflects a precise engagement with material and process. Developed with the Italian lighting company @from.lighting , the project brings together technical expertise across contexts, resulting in a piece that is both controlled and expressive. Equipped with a dimmable LED, Hall Lamp adapts to different environments and moods, moving between function and presence, between lighting tool and sculptural object. 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 at Milano Design Week 3/6 Presenting Noelani Rutz Project: Fleeting Landscapes An ephemeral landscape captured and fixed in material. With Fleeting Landscapes, @noelanirutz works at the edge of disappearance. Developed during the residency « Design with Japan », the project begins outdoors, in the snow-covered mountains—before any drawing or digital process. Plaster is cast directly into snow under shifting conditions of temperature and light, capturing textures that exist only for a moment. These impressions are then translated into ceramic tiles, where clay becomes a medium of memory. What was temporary is fixed; what was fragile becomes resistant. Produced with Tajimi Custom Tiles and the maker Sugiura Seito Co., Ltd., the collection reflects a dialogue between Switzerland and Japan - two cultures shaped by a close attention to seasonal change. 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 at Milano Design Week 2/6 Presenting iiode Project: Re27 Lighting made conscious. Re27 by @iiode starts from a simple premise: the best interface already exists. Instead of introducing a new system, iiode works with the universal E27 standard, extending its life through precision engineering and long-term thinking. Developed over five years with partners across Europe, Re27 brings together specialised knowledge in optics, electronics, and manufacturing. Each collaborator contributes to a shared process that prioritises durability, repairability, and material responsibility. The bulb is assembled without glue or solder, fully dismantlable and serviceable. Its retrofit approach shifts complexity into the light source itself, allowing existing luminaires to remain in use while upgrading performance and light quality. Shared Matter at Milano Design Week 1/6 Presenting Akuto Studio Project: Chord Machine AKT-0.1 A tool, an interface, a system - inviting anyone, regardless of musical training, to explore harmony. Blending traditional craftsmanship with interaction design and Swiss precision, Chord Machine AKT-0.1 by @akutostudio reimagines how we engage with music. Built around the Tonnetz, a harmonic system developed by Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler, the project translates centuries of abstract music theory into a tactile, intuitive interface. Chords are no longer learned; they are discovered, played, and experienced. Minimal in form yet complex in structure, the instrument reflects a quiet « Swissness »: not in its appearance, but in the coherence of its system and the precision with which an intellectual framework becomes immediate and playable. From early prototypes crafted in a luthier’s workshop in Athens to production within China’s manufacturing ecosystem, the project unfolds through a decentralised network of collaborators across Greece, New Zealand, Switzerland, and beyond. What does it mean to share matter? The key image made by @ginimoynier @nicolasbernklau , captures the essence of 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳: a gathering of people, textures and materials brought into one shared space. Like an archive assembled through the design process, each element is collected and held together without losing its individuality. At Milano Design Week 2026, Switzerland presents 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳, a collective exhibition by Pro Helvetia in partnership with Presence Switzerland Design does not emerge in isolation. It evolves through dialogue, exchange and shared experience.
