A tool, an interface, a system - inviting anyone, regardless of musical training, to explore harmony.
Blending traditional craftsmanship with interaction design and Swiss precision, Chord Machine AKT–0.1 by
@akutostudio reimagines how we engage with music.
Built around the Tonnetz, a harmonic system developed by Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler, the project translates centuries of abstract music theory into a tactile, intuitive interface. Chords are no longer learned; they are discovered, played, and experienced.
Minimal in form yet complex in structure, the instrument reflects a quiet “Swissness”: not in its appearance, but in the coherence of its system and the precision with which an intellectual framework becomes immediate and playable.
From early prototypes crafted in a luthier’s workshop in Athens to production within China’s manufacturing ecosystem, the project unfolds through a decentralised network of collaborators across Greece, New Zealand, Switzerland, and beyond.
