Last one! What otter animals would you like to see?
โ
๐ก When German zoologist and botanist Georg Wilhelm Steller went on his 1741 explorative voyage from Russia, he did not expect to crash-land on modern-day Bering Island. It was during this voyage that Georg was the first person to observe and scientifically describe otters!

Get otter here!
โ
๐ก In the UK a male otter can have a territory of over 12 miles depending on the quality of habitat and the availability of food. A female otter may have somewhat less, maybe 5-7 miles. Thus it is possible a male may have one or more females in his territory although he will not tolerate another male. โ

The boy who lived! Hairy Otter ๐ฉ
โ
๐ก Otter skin can have up to one million hairs per square inch. There are two layers of fur - an undercoat and then longer hairs that we can see. The layers manage to trap air next to the otter's skin, which keeps the otters dry and warm and also helps with buoyancy.

Why did the otter cross the pond? To get to the otter side. Yes. I went there.
โ
๐ก Otters live in homes called holts. These are usually underground beneath tree roots or piles of stones or logs. Anywhere that the otter can rest safely may be considered, sometimes the entrance can be underwater. An otter may have several holts throughout its territory. In the wild otters have been known to rest above ground in "couches" made of long grass or reeds.

You otter come over here, cutie ๐
โ
๐ก The whiskers on the face of an otter are very sensitive. They use them to pick up vibrations., allowing them to find their prey. Sea otters have an average 120 whiskers on their muzzle, which is similar to most seals. The internal anatomy of their whiskers is identical to seals and sea lions; they have the three blood sinus system, elastic tissues and lots of nerves. Their whiskers are supplied by ~1340 axons, about the same as found in several seals. This is quite surprising since the number of axons for river otters, a closely related but semiaquatic otter, is ~500 axons per whisker.

Turning the otter cheek
โ
๐ก See a group of otters? That's a romp or a bevy or a family or a raft. Otter groups go by a few different monikers, all of which are fairly unique to that crew. Generally, a group of otters on land will go by a romp, while a group hanging in the water is called a raft.
