Just been sent a selection of rehearsal videos and some gig footage from @chris_valentine_music of the NYJO BBC prom from 2018, which featured several brilliant works, including a world premiere piece from Laura Jurd titled ‘The Earth Keeps Spinning’, Gershwins ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ with Benjamin Grosvenor on the piano, and under the direction of Guy Barker, culminating with a UK premiere of Stan Kenton’s incredible ‘West Side Story’ suite in its entirety, under the direction of Mark Armstrong
It was definitely, by far, some of the most challenging music i think the band has ever had to play during my tenure with the band, but definitely one of the most rewarding and exciting experiences of my playing career. It’s so nice to have these clips just as a reminder of the sheer power and incredible playing of NYJO at the time (under the direction of Mark Armstrong)
