New Year, same mission! Let’s help history and our neighborhoods NOT FADE AWAY! The lovely, airy footprint of 211 Rutledge Avenue, and the building that was the circa 1949 art moderne Esso Servicenter that we have most recently known as Fuel, is in the crosshairs again this week!! Developers want to partially demolish the building, and move it’s remains to the edge of the lot’s corner, in order to cram in a maximum number of anonymous vacation rental units.. the absolute last thing Cannonborough needs more of!! They have retooled their proposal after they were denied in October, and have two big hurdles to clear at this Thursday’s 4.30p BAR-S meeting: In Agenda Item #6, they seek permission to demolish large portions of the historic structure, and also the beautiful glass block wall detail, which was created to match the original style and period in a loving 2008 restoration. In Agenda Item #7, they seek to move the building, which has countless awful repercussions. I’ll post the verbose thoughts that I submitted to the board in my stories, but just a few sentences of your own will help! Deadline to comment is 12p Wednesday, 1/7. We are thrilled to announce that our new culinary team has arrived!! Meet Head Chef Jermey Gozlan, and his right hand man, Sous Chef Carter Louv! After years of preparation helping lead some top-notch kitchens, these fellas are more than ready to be front and center! We can’t wait to welcome y’all back for our grand reopening on December 9th, as we present @jeremygozlan_ & @gothamgastro ‘s fresh new take on the pintxos and tapas of the Lowcountry! 9.19.25 Harleyville, SC Basil, Bolloso Napoletano (as captured between garden and topping @tuttichs pizza!) definitely my fave of the basils i’ve grown this year.. slow to get going, but eventually picture and flavor perfect.. big, almost lettuce like leaves with full, classic basil flavor! as the name would suggest, this most lovely heirloom hails from Napoli, and seeds can easily be yours through @southernexposureseedexchange or @farmacieisolde ‘s excellent catalogues!

they’ve arrived!!! hailing from Norway, @sorlandschips are the only commercial potato chips currently being fried in 100% peanut oil in the world (or at least the only one we’ve been able to find!), and they are without a doubt one of the finest chips we have ever tasted!! the deeper we go down this road, the more conversations that begin, and our favorite one has become OIL.. while the insane array of far out potato chip flavorings of the 🌍 is certainly a fascinating topic that we celebrate, oil has stole our attention, as it is always the 2nd (and only other essential) ingredient in the crisp, and the plethora of types used is vast, interesting, and informative beyond just the realm of potato chips. in the days of old, 🥜 oil was considered king, and as so was quite ubiquitous, but drastically increased prices and rampant allergy concerns over the past few decades have basically made it obsolete. It has always been @maxkuller ‘s preferred oil for latkes and fries, so tracking down a source for Sørland’s was a must, once discovered! Thank you @norbites_ for getting them to us fresh and in great condition! They are truly spectacular; completely different from our olive oil gold standard, the delicate, yet crisp @bonillaalavista , it is a slightly more robust crisp, full of rich potato! we are also pumped to rip open some @zumitam chips this week! Hailing from Mexico, they are also getting involved in the oil conversation, producing several baggings of each olive, avocado, and most excitingly (because it will be the 1st we’ve tried!) COCONUT 🥥 oil! and oh yeah, welcome to our @instagram account! if you are new to Bar Estrella, once upon a time we were conceived by @estadiochs to be a next door sister bar. unfortunately that was in January 2020 and didn’t go quite as planned, BUT we relaunched last summer as a pop-up, featuring the finest Champagne (nothing is better with chips!), a whole lot of FUN, and a growing collection of potato chip offerings from around the world! nowadays, we are even presenting our chips as a world map & use vintage chip tins as Champagne buckets 🥳 Come be part of the next round @estadiochs THIS THURSDAY evening 5/8 5-8p 🥔 🥂
