A lot of people would regard Flip Pallot as the godfather of fly fishing. He’s been doing it and teaching the art for decades. He’s done a few awesome tv shows that aired on ESPN way back; Fords Fishing Frontiers and The Walker Cay Chronicles. They’re on YouTube now, you should check them out. He’s spent seven decades being an avid outdoorsman, and an advocate for its preservation. He told me that his heart was black and blue and full of hurt from a fight that he has fought his entire life and couldn’t win. It took me a moment to realize that his now exceptionally grim outlook on the way the world operates wasn’t some jaded perspective. While we were shooting this there was a moment that I was standing on 106th Ave and 28th St. …We were in a Florida state forest that was being prepared for development. It’s the reality to the capitalist norm we’ve created. Nothing is supposed to last, and we have to be bigger and better next year at the expense of someone or something. The earth is struggling, and it’s important that we listen to the people who have experienced the most amount of change and destruction.
