And thanks to @trainwithbecca for the Muscles! ✨ A new creative chapter has already begun for me - the next projects I am directing will be narrative, scripted films! I’m taking a collaborative approach, working closely with trans screenwriter Morgan M Page @odofemi to thread through the aesthetic and political concerns of my earlier work into narrative form. While the UK is in the midst of this culture war portraying trans people as less than human, there has never been a more vital moment for the arts community to respond. I believe in the power of cinema to create empathy, to push us into often-uncomfortable conversations, and ultimately be part of making social change. As a British-Chinese trans director, my previous work in experimental shorts has focused on the politics and pleasures of queer sexual intimacies between marginalized bodies — trans and queer people of colour, sx workers, lesbians. I’m keen to move into traditional narrative filmmaking so that my work can reach a broader audience while retaining this focus.  I’ve noticed and appreciated the wealth of trans talent - both actors and filmmakers - in the UK across Theatre, Film and TV and want to foster a UK-based trans filmmaking community - that will ultimately benefit both filmmakers and audiences who are hungry for trans-led narratives.  Thank you Morgan for helping to shape these thoughts into engaging text, to share this vision! #transfilmmaking #transdirector

Max Disgrace is an award-winning film director, a film programmer and trans man of Chinese descent, living in London. Max has just directed a new short film ‘Dismantle Me’ associate produced by Lilly Wachowski (The Matrix, Bound) on this film he worked with with a majority trans and non-binary cast and crew, achieved in collaboration with international filmmaker directory: Trans+ On Screen. Max’s body of work has focused on the politics of queer s3xual intimacies between marginalized bodies. His previous short film Ruptured premiered on underground film platform 4:3 Boiler Room, for which he was awarded the Wahala Film Fund grant – for Queer, Transgender and Intersex People of Colour filmmakers. The UK Government has recently opened a public consultation asking viewers, performers, creators, parents and experts for their views on the impacts of p*rn on work, relationships, society, violence and young people towards creating new regulation as part of their newly approved Online Safety Act. The consultation is open until March 7th, meaning that for a very limited time s*x-positive people, s*x workers, creators and allies have the chance to share their thoughts and attempt to counteract the anti-sx,anti-p*rn lobbies that will no doubt be flooding the page with research-informed data, lived experiences and more balanced information. FREE PALESTINE! 🇵🇸 “We believe that showing our work in Israel would dishonor the radical histories of queer activism and self-expression, which stand opposed to violent systems like apartheid and military occupation. We will continue to speak out for Palestine, to educate ourselves, and to uplift Palestinian voices. Our queerness, and our humanity, demand that we do so.” I’m also personally pledging not to participate in events held or sponsored by institutions complicit in Israeli apartheid.
