Working with clients with Long COVID, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Postural Orthostatic
Tachycardia Syndrome, & many other
autoimmune disorders involves a more nuanced approach than simply leaning into the old mind set of just “push through it”
There is no lack of motivation or discipline, in fact the discipline often involves holding back from going too hard in a gym session due to the potential detrimental impact.
I’ve listed 4 key principles I use when working with clients managing these conditions.
Shifting from the all or nothing mindset, to appropriate pacing is fundamental.

If you want weight training to be a part of your life, for life, finding movement to complement this is key.
Optimal strength training for hypertrophy requires loading muscles in full extension to full flexion.
To achieve this we need our joints to work through full range.
For years I was advised to do yoga to support my weight training, but it didn’t have that hook I needed…
In 2019 I found animal flow and it has been the best addition to my weekly training…

Seeing so many trans guys enter #Gymshark66 challenge this year made me reflect on how we are changing the face of the fitness industry.
Showing up in an industry that,historically, celebrates the gender binary, is brave.
Navigating gyms is brave.
Seeing more trans Personal Trainers, online coaches & athletes is giving more people access to spaces they thought were simply not for them.
And that is wonderful.
So my 3 habits to implement for the next 66 days are:
1.No phone after 9pm
2.Daily gratitude journal
3.Hit Daily protein goal
Not huge or life-altering habits, but small practices that make a difference over time.
