This is the moment that almost broke me. Standing on stage, remembering the look in his eye…I barely held it together.
The gift of presence, of being, of showing up…it’s the best thing we can give. It’s life itself. 🧸❤️

The first time I watched my TEDx talk, I broke down. I poured my very heart and soul into this vulnerable 13 mins to try to pair down an incredibly important message…and I’m f’ing proud of this.
So many people to thank for getting me here, for suggesting tweaks and edits and rewrites…and I look forward to thanking you all, but for now…
👀I have a call to action for you all: Please watch this video. If you like it, like it, share it, shout it from the rooftops. It would mean the world to me, and I really feel the message is something that can resonate in a big way. I don’t know how algorithms work, but I feel that views are good things when it’s important content so please watch it if you can spare 13minutes!
Wow. I don’t know what else to say.
To be continued…

On Saturday, I told a story - a wonder-filled exploration of expectation and the state of our hearts and minds.
36 hours later and so far I’ve managed to avoid “…the worst vulnerability hangover of my life.”- @brenebrown
Maybe that’s because of the full moon on the 9th, the people I felt in my presence on stage, the incredible audience that was so generous and giving that listened with a collective open heart, my fellow speakers who created amazing community, or my absolute rockstar wife @mmaderthomson who endured 3 months of rewrites, drafts and practice as well as a full day the day of TEDxArgyleSt.
All of that to say, I left it all out there. Were there stumbles? Hell ya there were. There were also laughs, tears and silliness. It was exactly what it was supposed to be. I feel pretty amazing about my first experience on the red dot.
Grateful, honoured, supported. Those are the words . Looking forward to sharing more about the experience with my network, and to showcase my unbelievable peers who shared incredible insights!

I’m so proud of this fundraiser! A Gift Idea with Heart ❤️🧸
(Support a great cause! A great gift for friends, families, work teams - while supplies last)
Last summer, I published my children’s book: I Love You, I Trust You, I’m Proud of You, a message every child (and every adult) deserves to hear.
This fall, after sharing my TEDx Talk, a conversation started with the Canadian Mental Health Association, Nova Scotia Division and that conversation turned into something meaningful.
From now until December 23, a portion of every book, bundle, or sticker sold at mattthomson.ca will be donated to CMHA Nova Scotia through Cozy Burrow Collaborative.
Every book is personally signed, and if you’ve read it and watched the talk, you’ll notice something special woven throughout the illustrations: small crowns; a quiet nod to Kinger, whose presence continues to influence this work.
Mental health touches all of us. Partnering with CMHA NS felt like a natural extension of the book’s message.
If you’re looking for a gift that warms hearts, sparks conversation, and supports mental health across Nova Scotia, consider picking up a copy for someone you love.
*dont need a book or sticker? Just liking, commenting and sharing this post helps a great deal!*

“Like the orchard story?
It actually starts long before me
It starts with Roswell, my great-grandfather.
He was training to become a doctor when the Great War broke out.
He enlisted as a medic and served in Flanders Fields.
What he saw changed him.
Industrial warfare. Horses charging machine guns.
Onward, always… onward.
After he came home, he stepped away
Slowed down. Moved to the country. Planted apple trees.
I like to see it as his quiet rebellion against a world that only knew how to push forward.”
- excerpt from my TEDx titled “Can we find calm in a world of chaos”
