Harmony already exists in the air!
I knew this but had a bit of an epiphany today as I actually heard a counter melody occurring from difference tones while playing Blue Monk over a drone. To quote Jeremiah Lockwood, a hidden melody was revealed!
Thanks to all who came out last night for our debut of CITIES, and the wonderful staff at @roulette_intermedium and @marcurselli for engineering sound. Shot above by @marcurselli during Matt Bauderâs âBerlin: The Longest Sunsetâ
Such a pleasure to once again mix the amazing #GhostTrainOrchestra @ghosttrainorchestra of #BrianCarpenter @bwcarpenter , this time with the new project called âCitiesâ where various players from the ensemble write music inspired by cities they lived in or travelled to, and which have been arranged specifically for this ensemble.
The last time I was in this room with this band I was mixing their Moondog-dedicated concert after the release of the Moondog-compositions record with Kronos Quartet (whom I recorded in the studio for that very album). That night the special guests were singers David Byrne (whose new record GTO just recorded), Joan As Policewoman, Karen Mantler and later on we did the same show at Town Hall with those same guests plus some other ones (Marissa Nadler) and Kronos Quartet themselves.
Tonight at Roulette there were no special guests but there was a special energy for a special crowd of connoisseurs, fans and supporters in the know who were all there to hear new music (yet to be released). It was my first time hearing this new music that the Ghost Train Orchestra wrote and let me tell you itâs beautiful!!!
Some of the standouts were Brian Carpenterâs piece âReykjavĂkâ, #MattBauder @mattbauder âs piece âBerlin: the Longest Sunsetâ, #KatieKresek @katiekresek âs piece âDelphiâ #AndyLasterâs piece âSeattleâ and #CurtisHasselbring @curtishasselbring âs piece âLas Vegasâ.
Dug up from the grave @hearing.things.band has a new song for Halloween, crawl up to my bio to snag it đ
Arranged for our all-Bach set at Jonathan Toubinâs Haunted Hop (2018), recorded weeks later by @therealbinz buried in a wooden box, and was all but forgotten. But this year, when I spliced the head back on the mangled tape, its dead eyes awoke and screamed:
âRELEASE ME!â
Mixed and Mastered by Dr. @keithreynaud
Quotes from last week:
âI mean, goddamn. It is so nice to work with you. You f*^%ing slayed that track. Youâre a goddamn boss.â
And from another composer:
âBeautiful! Thatâs great!!â
PS - I recently stumbled upon a nice combo with these mics. I flip the phase on one of them and the result has been a nice balance of detail and natural-ness
Tracking horns is a dream job, keep it coming!!!
