Hi DMV/Baltimore folks! This summer, I’ll be teaching two clay workshops @materialthingsstudio . The first is a workshop designed for K-12 teachers who either currently teach ceramic units in their art classes - or want to begin. We’ll be covering material basics geared for a school setting, a variety of demo strategies, and lots of unit ideas and prototyping. Nothing makes me happier than to help other K-12 teachers make clay more accessible, more interesting - and easier to manage. So I really hope you join! Clay experience for this one is not necessary. The second is a workshop that I’ll be co-teaching with Katie Aldworth, the head potter for the production pottery side of things @materialthingsstudio . We’ll be covering how to throw repeat forms on the potters wheel and how to implement a variety of altering techniques with consistency in mind. For the wheel throwers out there, hope you join us!

My favorite time of year, The Gateway Arts Open Studios day! It’s my second year organizing on behalf of @materialthingsstudio and it’s always so fun to have students take pride and take the leap to showcase what they’ve created within the space along side and with the help of our wonderful teachers. It’s a day to be silly, to have fun, and to check out our other neighboring studios & artists!

First 8 weeks of wheel class @materialthingsclasses done. Super fun! Gets me out of my work head. Now i just need to figure out how to pull the clay up evenly so it doesn't resemble a brick. Baby steps. #makeart #hobby #ceramics

Amidst all the things happening in the world, my workplace @materialthingsstudio has extended the artist application deadline for this super cute and super supportive fundraising market to Jan. 31st!! All art mediums encouraged! This is for an expecting couple who needs support for maternity leave / rent help 💗 I'm trying to get into the roll of making miniature things. Especially brand new things like fish cups, corn cups, and creature jars 2.0 Stay tuned and be safe ✨

MT is OPEN. As of midnight last night our lot is plowed thanks to @_francro_ and our friendly neighbor with his backhoe. Now on to clearing paths to the kiln and other essential outdoor work areas. Students, we will be offering extra open studio for the rest of session, stay tuned and check your email.

Material Things is CLOSED. Students check your email for updates before coming in. Despite the valiant efforts of @_francro_ and his adult kids Kristop and Mateo until dark last night, the parking lot remains 2/3 under snow and ice with a 2 foot berm of ice blocking entrance to the parking lot. We are waiting on a snow plow that may come this afternoon, tomorrow, or later. We will post here when the studio is accessible. Please stay safe and warm.
