We are expanding. And it feels important to reflect on the beginning. MT is about relationships. The one that started it all is the creative bond of @_francro_ and myself (Katie here 👋). When we met we’d spend hours talking about our ideas, influences and ways we could work together. We knew we wanted to share our creative practices and space. Since that time our work has been immeasurably influenced and elevated by each other. Right now we are grinding, but when the expansion dust settles I cannot wait to see what is yet to come.

We also picked their brains about why the North Brentwood, Maryland-based clay, wood and metal studio and educational space plays an integral role in the @mygatewayarts community.

A little update! I’m going to be participating for the second year in the @gatewayost on May 9 @materialthingsstudio from 12-5pm. This open studio day is an opportunity to check out other studios where artists open their studio doors to the public, offering collectors, neighbors, and art lovers a behind-the-scenes look at how and where art is created.
I’m very grateful for the community at the MT studio and happy that I finally signed up for classes back in the fall of 2024- thank you to the friends that encouraged me ( you know who you are!). Over the past year and a half I’ve met some incredible artists that have become great friends. And one of the greatest benefits of being part of a community studio is exchanging ideas, tools, techniques, and opportunities to do a little collab☀️
Last photo is one of my proudest moments is making a teapot from start to finish in one day. That was my first time making one and I learned a lot along the way that I’ll apply next time✨
