Curious how kilns work? Want to learn how to fix them yourself? Want to raise money for mutual aid in Gaza? These workshops are for you! DMVs kiln king @potsbyryan has generously volunteered his time to bring this offering to our ceramics community. He brings broken kilns back to life and helps the pottery community continue creating by fixing our kilns ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’• Ryan is the reason Studio Kusi was able to afford a kiln! All profit is donated to @gazasoupkitchen 25% off if you make < 65k #ceramics #pottery #handmadeceramics #potterystudio #thingstodoindc

Come learn about the basics of glaze chemistry and glaze application. During the first half of the class, students will learn about how stable glazes are designed, and how to aim for specific characteristics when designing a glaze. During the second half of the class, students will learn about what actually happens when glaze is applied to a pot and goes into the kiln, and students will learn about some of the most common errors in application that can result in glaze flaws. Significant time will be allotted for Q&A. This lecture is for students who want a deeper understanding of how glazes work, but they may not be interested in the super mathy/chemistry aspects of Ryanโ€™s full 9-week glaze chemistry workshop. This class would also provide a great review of basic glaze chemistry for students who have already taken the full workshop, but want to refresh their knowledge.
