Marla Nicole ✨✨ Happy Birthday to the longest standing member of KDC! Marla has been sharing her love, light, and passion with us since the very very beginning in 2013 when KDC was just a thought and a short-term project. There are no words to really capture all that she is *and* we can only do our best to describe her. An anthropologist, a museum enthusiast, a mover, an energy-reader, a sister, a friend, a one-woman cheerleading team, a nap connoisseur, a repository of information on all things Black Diaspora, an educator… whew! What a curious thing it is that her depth is always presented first by a friendly smile and a simple head nod. @marlamuse enjoy this day and more to come! #KDC #KriyolDanceCollective #DanceFamily #MarlaRobertson

Dance is expression. It has no bounds and can tell the truths your mouth can’t stand to taste. #NewProjectComingSoon interpreting the words of the very legendary @emelinemichelmusic . 📸: @allyvisuals 💃🏽: @laempress_vero @marlamuse @kriyoldance 🧠: @laempress_vero #MVMNTBYALLY #AllyVisuals #Lanmou #Reflection #DanceInProgress #BAX #lovepoems #Nonm #EmelineMichel #HaitianArtists

Thank you @marlamuse for your amazing work. We love you 🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️ See what she said about dance below 👇🏾 As a black mover, I use dance for peace, release and to connect memory and history. Using the diaspora’s deep connection to agriculture, I aim to answer the questions: How do we prepare the soil of our minds to do the work of our lives? What are our tools and how are we working to survive and be well? #dance #passion #black #blackculture

It got cringey in the lab today. Marla (@marlamuse ) reflected on her theory that the pandemic not only came with the physical ailment that we diagnose, but also with some other illness embedded within it. That illness, defined by imbalance and such a heavy heavy load, we all face whether we’ve tested positive or not. So how we do wellness, how we do self-care… well, it just needs investigating. . . . . . #kriyoldancecollective #haiti #brooklyn #blackart #blackculture #healthandwellness #danceclass #belo #tanbou #immigration #performance #spokenword #culturalactivism #welcometohaiti
