I’ve been working with the good people over @footpatrol_ldn and @Nike with the release of the Air Max 90 Viotech 2.0. A crazy clashing colour way inspired by the original Japanese released colour ways in the early 2000’s. I thought I’d pay homage to some of the imported Japanese magazines I used to look at back when working @bape_japan London store on my lunch break. Level 6A @markwardstudio / Mark Ward is an illustrator and artist originally from South London, now living in Bournemouth. Mark's vibrant work is built around his fascination with the sun -scorched world he saw beamed through his TV and through the pages of imported American skateboard magazines. In a pre-internet era, Mark's youth was spent collecting snippets of American culture and piecing together a distorted exotic mecca of everything that contrasted so vividly with his grey UK surroundings. After a visit to America the realisation hit that the nirvana Mark had been sold didn't exist. Mark's work keeps the dream alive and celebrates the misguided excitement of his youth. He uses humour as a tool to connect with the viewer, while at the same time highlighting the ridiculous nature of the hype machine.

New work for the good people over at @out_kingston magazine. I illustrated the cover feature on the world famous @banquetrecords independent record store situated on Kingston High St. A cornerstone of the scene and loved by all ages of the community, as well as touring mega stars that ask to play in Kingston at the shop purely because of their reputation. The store owner Jon is in the middle under the giant record holding up the whole thing, alongside the amazing crowd supporting him.
I've shown some work in progress sketches here - something I rarely do, but want to do more of. Thanks to the brilliant @cai_and_co for the opportunity and art direction. 🙏
