4K Version. “You Will Be Found” from the musical Dear Evan Hansen is a hopeful anthem about overcoming isolation, loneliness, mental health struggles and the power of connection with others. It signifies that even in the darkest moments when one feels invisible or forgotten, they are not alone and will be seen, supported, and understood. Sign language is a powerful medium that conveys emotions with remarkable intensity. Similarly, dance holds great power, serving as a way to express ourselves and communicate without words. This is why I chose this song—the lyrics carry such strong emotions, making it an ideal match for sign language. My primary goal with this piece is to craft a universal language that resonates with everyone, reminding us that no matter where we are, we are never truly alone. ‘Enjoy the Silence’ by Depeche Mode delves into the profound satisfaction and intimacy found in quiet moments, where the absence of words speaks louder and feels less intrusive. I interpret this song through sign-language for the choreography from the perspective of being deaf, finding a deep appreciation for the silence that surrounds me when I turn off or remove my hearing aid. At times, the overwhelming noise makes it necessary to disconnect, bringing a sense of calm and peace into my life. The music carries a beautiful melody, which the dancers embodied through their movements, turning their bodies into musical instruments. This created a visually accessible way for me to experience and understand the musical notes with greater clarity.
