*CEREBRAL PALSY WALKING AND STAIR IMPROVEMENTS* Gait First gait video February 2024 Second gait video Dec 2024 Third gait video January 2025 Stairs First video February 2024 Second video December 2024 Boxes First video Feb 2024 Second video December 2025 Arianah is a 10 year old girl who has cerebral palsy and PURA syndrome. PURA syndrome is a rare genetic disorder which affects the nervous system causing moderate to severe developmental delays; intellectual disability, non-verbal behaviour and reduced gross and fine motor abilities. Arianah experiences hypotonia (reduced muscle mass), vestibular impairment (reduced balance and proprioceptive abilities), impaired gait, difficulty walking up and down stairs, and intellectual disability. Her mother Louise, sought out functional patterns in trying to find therapies and treatments to assit her daughter’s health. We started working together in February 2024 initially with 1 session per week, then from July 2024 we increased to 2 sessions per week with fellow HBS2 practitioner @jonathan__sealey . Recently, we’ve added a 3rd. It’s been amazing to see Ari’s response and progress to the training. Louise’s testimonial: “I’ve seen incredible improvements in my daughter since we started using functional patterns. Her gait has become so much smoother, and she moves with more ease and confidence than before. Not only has her posture improved, but her overall body strength has increased significantly. She now feels more balanced, even in situations where she used to struggle with coordination. For e.g Ari is now able to get into the car on her own, she turns her butt to the seat, plonks down, then puts one foot in at a time…it’s like she is realising how her body is supposed to work! “ On top of that, I’ve noticed a positive shift in her cognitive abilities—she seems more focused, aware, and engaged. It’s been amazing to witness how functional patterns have impacted her overall well-being, both physically and mentally. I can’t recommend it enough!” @functionalpatterns @projectfunction @theleverking @fp_sydney #functionalpatterns #fpisthestandard #fpsydney #cerebralpalsy #walking

Results with @jasond2510 with @functionalpatterns training. Jason has shown tremendous commitment to his training. I’ve known Jas for a few years now and used to see him really struggle with his movement and health. Seeing him make the switch to the functional patterns methodology and change his mindset to training and health is really encouraging Before 24.03.21  ❌ compressed ribcage and spine ❌ poor intrabdominal pressure ❌ poor joint stacking ❌ imbalanced shoulders  ❌ excessive rib shift  After 18.11.23 ✅ decompressed ribcage and spine  ✅ improved core engagement ✅ improved joint stacking  ✅ less inflammation ✅ shoulders less imbalanced  ✅ improved muscle mass and 8kg weight loss Jason’s testimonial:  At 49, I had been weight training since I was 16 & was busted. My right knee was so inflammed & painful I couldn’t walk upstairs & couldn’t walk about 2000 steps a day. I was unable to run at all. I was having PRP injections monthly. My right hip was in constant pain & I couldn’t press overhead on my left side due to severe shoulder restrictions. My physical health was a roller coaster of training, self medicating & injury. My mental health was suffering. I was drinking at least a bottle of whiskey or vodka a week as part of my coping strategy. I started working with Mark once a week in February 2021 & did the 10 week online course & did the homework 3 times a week, my knee, hip & shoulder pain diminished significantly. I was hooked. February 22 I did the Human Foundations Course. Now I’m 51, my overall mobility, range of motion & quality of life has improved significantly. Still plenty to work on but with a great prac, some basic tools & the fp protocols life is looking up. My gym is the back yard, in the sun, with a few medicine balls, dumbbells & some resistance bands. I now walk up & down stairs pain free, walk over 10000 steps a day & don’t have anywhere near the same health issues that I had before. Also, I’m alcohol free for the past 18 months and the gains are accumulating faster than ever. The results are astounding, nothing has ever given me this level of confidence, satisfaction & motivation. #functionalpatterns #fpisthestandard #fpsydney

***PERSONAL POSTURE PROGRESS** First photo Dec 2017. Training 3-5 times per week doing traditional training, followed a traditional healthy diet (with some binge drinking every other weekend). Had lower back stiffness and R shoulder bursitis. Couldn’t sit cross legged comfortably, and attributed it to be a “tight person”. Not being aware the training I was doing was causing more harm than good Second photo March 2023. Only doing functional patterns training. Be doing 2 hours per week of training at most. Cut out grains and alcohol which allowed the effects of the training to take place. I was able to access my core better to create more stability in my spine and more hydration in my tissues. Have no discomfort in my body, can play sports with no need to warm up, able to work 10+ hours per day as a trainer with no issues or pain in my body, have consistent energy and amazing sleep. My body is thanking me for taking on a regenerative path towards health. I know I’m barely scratching the surface of the regeneration but I’m starting to feel the proper scaffolding take place. All the thanks goes to @functionalpatterns patterns and @naudstradamus for laying the foundations of creating a system that not just looks at training and health, but more at our value systems that dictate our behaviours which ultimately affects our health. Thanks to @fp_sydney for the environment that’s been created there for problem solving and another big thanks to my wife @sammyklabib , im super grateful for all the work and support you do for me to make my life better. #fpisthestandard #functionalpatterns #functionaltraining #functionalfitness #functionalconditioning #makehumansfunctionalagain #leveragingmotions #training #posture #backpain #yoga #bodybuilding #biomechanics #dysfunctions #f45 #health #grounding #light #walking #running #athlete #pain #gait

Was playing a bit of sport towards the end of last year and the body’s been feeling great, but not getting complacent. Time to dial back in. Refocus on mechanics, address dysfunctions, and not let entropy creep in. Heading into my mid-30s, I’m grateful to have FP. My body feels better than ever… and there’s still a massive mountain to climb. FP really is the gift that keeps on giving. @fp_sydney #functionalpatterns #functionaltraining #movementculture #humanmovement #trainforlife longevitytraining bodymechanics posturematters movebetterfeelbetter injuryprevention

After years of recurring knee dislocations, V was told she should just be grateful she could lift her arm. She didn’t accept that. After trying nearly every therapy and training modality available, V began her Functional Patterns journey in February 2021 with @sam__lightfoot and continued training at @fp_sydney in May 2024. Here’s her experience in her own words: “I started FP after years of trying every therapy and exercise modality imaginable. Despite being active, my hypermobility led to recurring knee and shoulder dislocations, one of which required surgery. I saw surgeons, physios, osteopaths and chiropractors. The advice was always fragmented and often contradictory. I could return to training and lift heavy, but I never felt truly strong or stable. The shoulder issues always came back. The turning point came when I was told I should just be grateful to move my arm. I knew the problem wasn’t being looked at deeply enough. FP was completely different. Instead of isolated exercises, the focus was on integrated movement and structural organization. I don’t lift as heavy anymore, but I feel stronger, more connected and far more efficient in how I move. I’m especially grateful to Mark, whose open-minded and curious approach helped me navigate the nuances of my body. I’ve learnt, it’s not about pushing harder; it’s about moving better.” ⸻ Before — February 2021 ❌ hyperextended knees ❌ anterior pelvic shift ❌ lumbar compression ❌ scapular winging ❌ frequent knee dislocations ❌ 8/10 upper trap & deltoid discomfort when training ❌ felt unstable despite lifting heavy After — February 2026 ✅ knees no longer hyperextended ✅ improved pelvic organization ✅ better core integration ✅ more neutral spinal alignment ✅ lumbar decompression ✅ scapular winging improvement ✅ upper trap tension ~1/10 and rare ✅ no knee dislocations ✅ stronger, more connected movement @fp_sydney #functionalpatterns #functionalpatternstraining #humanmovement #movementtraining #shoulderstability

People often believe their aches and pains are simply a result of getting older — that breakdown is inevitable. But what if pain isn’t caused by age itself? What if it’s the way the body is organised — how muscles, fascia, and joints work together — that determines whether the body breaks down or supports itself? Most pain comes from imbalances within the system. When movement patterns and mechanical dysfunctions are addressed, function can improve and pain can reduce. Andrew is an example of what can happen when first principles of human movement are prioritised. Andrew is 67. Posture can improve at any age. Andrew’s testimonial: “I have been suffering from lower back pain and constant discomfort for several years and was unable to stand up straight due to poor sitting posture and household chores. My daughter recommended Mark after her own lower back pain improved, despite trying other physiotherapists without success. It’s been about 1½ years since I started weekly one-hour sessions. I can now stand straighter, walk long distances, and do household tasks without pain. If I do feel sore, I have exercises I can use to manage it myself. Before working together, my pain was around 7–8/10. It’s now closer to 1–3/10.” #functionalpatterns #lowerbackpain #agerelatedpain #posturepain

Joint pain and exercise have become almost inseparable — but they don’t have to be. Most people are active in their 20s and 30s. Some stay consistent, others stop. Then aches and pains start showing up… and it gets blamed on “getting older.” Those who keep training often accept pain as normal. They change programs, try different therapies, or push harder — chasing PBs while endorphins mask what their joints are actually feeling. Those who stopped exercising decide to “get fit again.” They jump back into running, gym workouts, or classes — and the joint pain returns. The problem isn’t exercise. And it isn’t age. It’s how tension and pressure are being distributed through the body. When movement is built on a dysfunctional structure, joints and ligaments take stress they weren’t designed to handle — and pain follows. Functional Patterns teaches you how to distribute tension evenly across your body, making movement easier on your joints while improving strength and functionality. If exercise causes you pain, it’s a signal — not something to push through. Start by improving your structure with the FP First 4, and you can train, move, and get stronger without joint pain. @fp_sydney #painfreejoints #JointPain #Exercise #Strength #FPFirst4

Great segment from the @thediaryofaceopodcast podcast with @drmattwalker — a reminder that whenever you take something exogenously (from outside the body), there’s always a trade-off. @theleverking has been saying it for years: if you want real, sustainable health, you need to trigger your hormones endogenously (from within). The best way way to do that? Focus on Mechanotransduction. Mechanotransduction is how the body converts mechanical forces — pressure, tension, and movement — into biochemical signals. It’s how your cells sense and respond to physical stress, creating real structural and hormonal adaptation. @functionalpatterns focuses on the four primary human movements — standing, walking, running, and throwing. When you optimise these, you tap into your biological design, improving function from the inside out. The results speak for themselves on the @fp.evidence . I recently checked my testosterone levels: 2021: 21.0 nmol/L Now: 26.3 nmol/L Over these years, I’ve mainly committed to Functional Patterns training and the basics: sunlight, grounding, blue-light management, and a paleolithic diet. Supplements only occasionally — nothing long-term. As I hit my mid-30s, I genuinely feel better than ever, and I know there’s still a lot of room to optimise my movement. If you want to stop cheating biology and actually improve your health from the ground up, start looking into Functional Patterns. #functionalpatterns #fpisthestandard #biologyfacts #testosterone #testosteronereplacementtherapy

People often stretch in an attempt to relieve their body of discomfort/pain or as they prepare their body for movement. But stretching in the way it’s typically done can make your muscles and fascia weaker and looser. When you stretch, your muscles and fascia don’t just lengthen, they respond to how tension is applied through your entire body. If that tension is scattered, uneven, or coming from compensations, the stretch reinforces imbalance. But if the tension is precise, meaning that you’re aligning your joints correctly, and distributing force through the right chains, the tissue lengthens in a way that improves your posture and movement. If you do feel “tight” in your body, then you need to create good tension in other parts of the body which will help reduce the bad tension you’re feeling. If you move well you will stretch well, and your body will feel like an elastic band that has good tensile force and elastic capabilities, making you feel like a spring. @fp_sydney #stretchcorrectly #functionalpatterns #fpisthestandard #backpainrelief #stretchingtips

As we age and our body ossifies (dehydrates and atrophies into bone), it becomes more difficult to maintain elastic recoil in our myofascial system. Many of our elastic bands (muscles) get longer and longer, eventually to a point where they mostly go offline and then we’re left to find other muscles to overcompensate for that loss. Stretching as it’s traditionally done, leads to these bands getting longer without the ability to snap back. The act of moving already involves stretching. If you move in a way that challenges the distortions in the body, you’re going to feel a stretch. When you train to improve the FP First 4, you will feel that stretch, but the difference is that stretch is going to help you create more force output and elastic recoil, instead of accelerating ossification. @fp_sydney #elasticrecoiltraining #functionalpatterns #fpisthestandard #fpsydney

70-90% of people will have low back pain at some point in their lives. They’re often told they have a “weak core and glutes” but are given exercises that have little to no effect. Training your glutes should coincide with the FP first 4, standing, walking, running and throwing. Functional patterns has taken the guesswork out of training your body and is a system that provides an optimal framework for training. It allows you to become more athletic whilst staying out of pain. @fp_sydney #functionalglutetraining #functionalpatterns #injuries #postureexercises #fpsydney
