This is just a small insight into what we get up to during our practical lectures with our 2nd years. As Nathan mentioned, the session focused on how lessons can be adapted to support pupils in overcoming a variety of scenarios and barriers to participation. ⚽️

📰 Hands-on sport science in action 💥
Students at Plymouth Marjon University are getting real-world research experience as part of a multi‑university project exploring how athletes’ jump performance changes under different loading conditions 🏋️♂️⬆️
Working alongside researchers from Southampton Solent University and Cardiff Metropolitan University, students are helping investigate training methods widely used in sport – but not yet fully understood from a biomechanical perspective.
🔬 Led by Dr Tommy Bright, the project involves around 80 participants, with Marjon students playing an integral role at every stage – from setting up lab equipment and guiding athletes, to coding and quality‑checking data using force platform technology.
🎓 First‑year student Katelin Lovell (19) said:
“Being involved in lab work and this research project has been really interesting. It’s helped me understand how what we learn in lectures is applied in real-life situations.”
Beyond research projects, Marjon students gain hands-on experience in health and wellbeing testing – including VO₂ max, lactate threshold testing and capillary blood analysis – often working with athletes and community clients, including elite gymnasts training onsite 🤸♀️
