As an MSc Sport & Exercise Psychology student, I always find it really valuable hearing directly from researchers and practitioners working within the field. So I have chosen to spotlight a few sessions that highlight just how broad and fascinating sport psychology can be ✨🌻 What I love most is how these talks go beyond “performance” alone, exploring topics like perfectionism, mental health help-seeking, and reflective practice within elite sport. As students, opportunities like this are such a valuable way to connect theory to real-world practice and hear directly from researchers and practitioners working in the field 📣

Through attending a networking event, I gained some valuable insights into developing a career within sport and exercise science. One key takeaway was the importance of being proactive including planning your career out to developing the skills employers are looking for. Networking also stood out. Making connections is not enough, maintaining connections builds genuine professional relationships over time which can open up opportunities and provide valuable insights into the industry.

Thinking about becoming a Sport & Exercise Psychologist in the UK? When I first looked into becoming a sport psychologist, I didn’t realise there were multiple pathways! This is just *one* route you can take and it’s important to remember there isn’t just one “right” pathway or starting point. Choosing the right route depends on your interests, career goals, and the type of practitioner you want to become 💛✨ 💬 Got any questions about pathways? Always feel free to reach out!

As one of the PGT Psychology Division Reps, I recently wrote a TSES Spotlight Article for the April Psychology Division newsletter 🌷 As students, we often focus on theory, but articles like this highlight how complex real-world athlete behaviour really is. These are the kinds of insights that help bridge the gap between theory and practice 🧠 Access to the journal is included in a CASES membership and it’s a great way to keep developing beyond your degree 💛✨ If you have any questions, feel free to reach out 💬

Developing as a Sport and Exercise Science Student goes beyond academic knowledge. While a strong foundation across key disciplines is essential, transferable skills such as communication, adaptability and the ability to build relationships are just as important. Building these skills early can help set you apart and better prepare you for a future career in Sport and Exercise Science.
