Marek is a Film Studies and Journalism grad from Palacký University who turned commercials into an award collecting sport. With one foot firmly planted in bold, absurd visual comedy with a surrealistic flavor. The other drives deep into strong emotions, honesty, and human behaviour. At his core, Marek is a world-builder. Whether surreal or grounded, his films don’t just tell stories, they create experiences.

⛏ Smearhead is a psychological thriller set in 1921 Czechoslovakia. Deep in a coal shaft, a miner begins to experience a reality no one can explain. Seen as prophecy or dangerous madness, his experience divides the community and reshapes the lives around him.

Marek is a storyteller director and his style straddles two worlds. The first - the funny one - blends bold and playful aesthetics with carefully casted characters who, thanks to Marek’s sense of humor, timing, and absurdity, deliver the perfect comedic tone. The second world is full of powerful emotions, drama, honesty, and human empathy, which, combined with strong cinematography, can deeply touch the viewer. Mark’s ability to navigate a wide range of cinematic language and emotions makes him a complex director who is no stranger to any challenge.
Marek’s refined directorial sensibility is confirmed not only by his work, but also by his success at prestigious festivals. Marek won gold for directing at the CICLOPE, Wood pencil at D&AD festival and also awards at Cannes Lions, Clio or Epica Awards. Marek was directing for major clients like IKEA, Telekom, McDonald’s and Zalando.

World War II ended 80 years ago. For eight decades, the horrors of the World War II were only a kind of memento and a warning. Today, unfortunately, they are a reminder of a threat that is once again present.
Video for @pamet_naroda reminds heroes not to be moved by their fates, but to be inspired by their actions, to draw from them the hope that each of us - with what little we have - can make a significant contribution.
