On behalf of Flexatonic Records and the NDR, we are happy to announce that Colouring Hockets has been nominated for a German Jazz Prize!! The project is a collaboration with the NDR Bigband (and especially their awesome percussionist Marcio Doctor) along with percussionists-Patricia Brennan, Matt Moran and conductor, JC Sanford. The concept of the album comes from Marcio’s aspiration to combine “percussion ensemble” with “big band”. I’m grateful for the wonderful players in the band (see below) and the continued support of the NDR Bigband management team!

NEW ALBUM OUT TODAY
I am thrilled to share with you a project that is very close to my heart. This album represents the realization of a long-held dream: combining the sounds of a percussion quartet with a jazz orchestra, and blending my love for jazz, ethnic and contemporary music, and improvisation.
From the very beginning, my first choice to collaborate on this endeavour was the brilliant drummer and composer John Hollenbeck, who fortunately accepted my invitation. I had the pleasure of playing with John a few years ago with the NDR Bigband and had long admired his work with various ensembles.
To complete the quartet, we invited the extraordinary Patricia Brennan and Matt Moran on mallet instruments. To bring it all together, we enlisted the experienced JC Sanford as the project’s conductor.
After sharing some inspirational works and defining the musical direction we wanted to pursue, John began composing the pieces. Following the challenges of the pandemic, we finally came together in Hamburg, where we rehearsed and performed a few exhilarating concerts. A year later, we headed into the studio, and today, I am overjoyed to share the result of this incredible collaboration with you all. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity not only to play this wonderful music but also to have accompanied the whole project from beginning to end as a co-producer.
