For years, I’ve been a big fan of portrait photographer and filmmaker, Timothy Greenfield-Sanders. @tgs When he and HBO @hbodocs reached out to me regarding “The A List,” I was all in.
What an experience visiting Timothy at his studio and home – a former Anglican convent in the East Village of NYC. I totally geeked out and bombarded him with questions about his large format wooden 8” x 10” Deardorff view camera from the 1930s. I almost forgot I was there to be photographed. He took four frames on 8”x10” color negative film and said “got it” and we were done. Then I asked him to pose for me with my medium format Hasselblad 503c. I was only able to shoot off three frames before the film crew, becoming increasingly impatient, gently encouraged me to take my seat so that they could mike me up for the film interview.
Still photo nerding out here instead of promoting the film.

A few more from opening night. Thank you @barakshramaphotography and @caamedia for the photos - I am rarely in front of the camera - and appreciate this treat. CAAMFest’s Opening Night film, THE A-LIST: 15 Stories from Asian and Pacific Diasporas, brought together the film’s executive producers, director, DP, editor crew and three of 15 cast DJ Rekha, Schuyler Bailar and myself. @crisostomo_n
Well that was different but crazy fun attending the screening of The A List: 15 Stories from Asian and Pacific Diasporas - an HBO original film at the CAAMFest 2026 Opening Night in San Francisco. Nancy and the girls joined in this amazing experience. A definite life milestone so humbled and grateful to be part of this project with fellow AANHPI cast. Thank you HBO @hbodocs and series creator @tgs Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and director @anothereugeneyi and producer Chad Thompson, @alphajada and rest of crew. @auliismaulii@crisostomo_n
Spent some time with Julia Gumataotao Quintanilla Quenga, a bråbu (active and vibrant) 91-year-old CHamoru WWll survivor at her Sacramento house today.
She signed a Guam flag for “Hasso,” a flag-signing project that pays tribute to the islanders who lived through the Japanese occupation in the early 1940’s and the US military personnel who helped liberate Guam.
Julia joined 321 other WWII liberators and CHamoru survivors, all in their 80s and 90s who signed three different Guam flags for the five-year passion project by California Superior Court Judge Johnny Cepeda Gogo, formerly of Sinajana.
What a fitting way to spend the first day of May - which is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. #chamoru #ww2 #guam #hasselblad #photography
