My first season as professor of conducting at @sibeliusacademy@uniartshelsinki is rounding up! It's been SUCH a joy in every way - the students are not only smart, gifted, curious and full of imagination, but also truly wonderful human beings. 🫶🏻 And the "university vibe" is dynamic, forward-looking and GENUINE, and the connection to music is palpable. I love it.
I am fascinated by the multiple processes of the artistic evolution of each of them and I can't wait to see more of it when we meet up again after the summer! (Very good entrance exams also...)

An exceptional man has left us. I am deeply grateful for having had the privilege of knowing him and for having felt his encouragement and support.
Speaking with Michael Tilson Thomas was like listening to an illustrated encyclopedia - so much knowledge combined with sharp wit and creative thinking! His work in SF and Miami was groundbreaking, artistically fearlessly visionary and future-building, and his music-making so insightful and illuminating.
May he rest in peace.

Kaija Saariaho left us not only a whole new way of listening and many new ways of making music, she showed us how to experience silence and hear light, but she also lead by example how powerfully art can make bold and yet subtle statements - with empathy - about important and difficult questions of life and the world we live in.
Tonight we're going to open the performances of INNOCENCE at the @metopera and I am certain that even for the New York audiences this work will be a experience that remains in the hearts and minds for a long time.
A huge toi-toi-toi for all of the exquisite team, thank you all for your artistic generosity, sensitivity and dedication for this extraordinary work! How incredible, these Finnish Women's Months going on in New York... first the @metmuseum presenting an exceptional exhibition of Helene Schjerfbeck, and then the @metopera opens Kaija Saariaho's and @sofioksanen 's masterpiece opera INNOCENCE.
I'm familiar with Schjerfbeck's work since my childhood, of course, many of these paintings having become part of the Finnish collective consciousness... there were also many paintings which I never saw before. Absolutely sublime. What I wasn't prepared for was the sudden grip of my heart and the emotion when seeing her extraordinary work surrounded by the multitude of centuries of treasures from the entire world in this miraculously beautiful museum.
The deepest bow of gratitude to Elsa A. Brule for her generosity in making this possible in honouring her Finnish ancestors!
