If artists don’t write their stories, entire ways of being creative disappear.
What parts of your creative life have gone undocumented?
Baltimore-based interdisciplinary artist and photographer Lisa Brown creates work that blends visual storytelling and experimentation across mediums, exploring identity, perception, and the layered narratives within everyday life.
Join us for a conversation and writing session exploring how artists can:
document process
claim visibility
contribute to collective memory
This is an invitation to write yourself into the record.

LET’S TALK PROCESS!
What’s something about your creative life that people don’t see?
The doubt?
The rituals?
The in-between moments?
Our upcoming workshop explores how writing can hold all of it.
Our panel is moderated by Baltimore-based author and creativity coach Amy Bernstein who supports artists and writers in deepening their creative practice.

Making Her Mark Foundation Presents:
The Creative Life, Written
Artists on Process and Collective Memory
Join us for a powerful conversation and interactive session at this year’s @citylitproject Festival with Ruut DeMeo, Lisa Brown, Amy Bernstein, and @sarah_magida_art
What happens when artists write about their process… Not just the finished work, but the doubt, persistence, and evolution behind it?
This session explores writing as a tool for:
• documenting creative lives
• expanding representation
• turning personal experience into collective memory
There will be guided prompts for your own creative journey.

When @thiscouldgoboom responded enthusiastically to supporting our songwriting workshop, we were a little freaked out and starstruck! This extraordinary nonprofit works to equalize gender in the music industry, promoting and empowering artists like @diorashleybrown 🔥🔥🔥
Our workshop will be hands-on and practical, with lots of brainstorming about why we write songs, who we want to reach with our songs, and how collaboration is a revolutionary aspect of expanding our creative practice.
Thank you to @thiscouldgoboom for supporting our workshop and for the AMAZING WORK THEY DO!
Go check out their Instagram for inspiration.
Thanks to @hearmeroarstudio for this collection!

We are so honored to have her join us!
Tickets are almost gone!
We are ecstatic to have the one and only @heidnseeks grace our benefit concert stage this Sunday! Heidi will share an original spoken word poem to open the show. She is incredible! Just wait til you hear her.

We are excited to present our opener for this Sunday’s benefit concert: @danahdenice
Danah tells us she is honored to share the stage with Ruut in support of Making Her Mark’s mission to uplift and empower Women Creators.
She’s had an extraordinary journey herself, and you’ll hear all about it at the Benefit Concert on Sunday.
