WALL STREET ART @urbanrevolution.pt Cordoaria Nacional (parts of a 1st draft emailed to curator @paulinefoessel ) "Hello Pauline   After a lot of thinking these last few days I realized I want to do something that makes sense in the context of the show and its many particularities (...) I started wondering around the idea of the show and its title: urban (r)evolutions, where it is (cordoaria nacional) and what this place represents, the size and dimension of the public, the importance and relevance of this event, and so on. (...) this makes a lot of sense to me: finding and figuring out what is the right thing to do, nailing the point. (...) This took me to what is my thesis subject, where my work is the centerpiece of an eventual (or questionable) dichotomy between street art and the art market, the evolution from illegal, interventive and subversive work into a continuous institutionalization, mercantilization and commoditization, normalized with the (before pursued) but now consecrated and valuated (street) artists. All of this materialized in an art industry (or market) of artist-companies, studios, galleries, festivals, fairs, museums, curators, collectors, political and media attention, touristic tours, financialization, etc, as so it is with the art world as a whole. Being this specific show, for its size, importance, where it is, its public, a realization of this "evolution", or this stage of the urban arts. So I thought of an installation as a self-critique and self-awareness of this stage and present context of urban art (one of which myself and my work makes part), how capitalism kidnaps, agglutinates and transforms its (possible) critique and counter-culture, commodifying, massifying and selling it. “THE STUDIO” – Week 4 with @maismenos Over the past week, ±MaisMenos± (Miguel Januário) has used the gallery as a space for construction and experimentation, developing works that move between drawing, text, and moving image. Working with pastel pencil and stop-motion video, the residency has centered on a reduced visual language where contrast serves as a tool for reflection. Rooted in a practice that engages critically with contemporary society, ±MaisMenos± continues to operate through opposition and tension, balancing clarity with ambiguity, immediacy with disruption. The programme now enters its final week with @wastedrita from 9 – 14 May. THE STUDIO 🖌️ MYSTERY EDITIONS → Dropping TOMORROW at 4pm (GMT+1) As part of “The Studio” residencies project, Underdogs is releasing a new series of risograph editions by participating artists @maismenos @nunoviegas.pt @pedritastudio @tamara_aalves and @wastedrita . Available online starting 8 April at 4pm (GMT+1), the editions will be launched without revealing their final result. Each edition begins as a fixed composition, but remains open to change. “Povo” Peça adquirida pelo Museu da Presidência para integrar a Sala do Conselho de Estado, no Palácio de Belém. Por entre pétalas de cravo pintadas, a frase “o povo vencido jamais será unido” convoca uma leitura inquieta sobre a cada vez mais frágil triangulação entre democracia, representação e poder. Invertendo um slogan de resistência coletiva, expõem-se as fragilidades resultantes da contínua fragmentação da sociedade portuguesa e do incontornável envelhecimento da democracia. Na Sala do Conselho de Estado, esta singela peça ganha um peso particular. Entre a memória de um Abril cada vez mais distante de se cumprir, o encerramento de um ciclo presidencial e a contínua ameaça do regresso de outros tempos que sobre ela paira, pouco há aqui a celebrar. Talvez apenas um eco de resistência que, ainda que aparentemente domesticado, interpela quem nesta sala decide, ou uma consagração que teima em expor, conscientemente e sem ornamentos, as nossas fragilidades. Esta aquisição integra um conjunto de obras de Ana Aragão, Alice Marcelino, Ana Malta, Francisco Vidal, Fidel Évora, João Amado, Marta Pinto Machado, Mantraste + Associação de Moradores do PER11, ±MaisMenos±, Pantonio e Unidigrazz. Um agradecimento ao Vhils, à Carla Cardoso e ao Museu da Presidência por tornarem possível a presença da arte contemporânea, e das suas inquietações, neste lugar de representação e decisão. #maismenos #museudapresidencia

Created in 2014 by the artist @miguel_januario , better known as @maismenos , the largest community tile mural in the city of Porto has undergone a rehabilitation intervention. The artwork is thus once again gaining prominence as one of the city’s most emblematic urban art projects. And, who is Porto for you? 👇

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗺 𝗲́𝘀, 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗼? 💙 A pergunta continua a ecoar na 𝗥𝘂𝗮 𝗱𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗮, agora com novo brilho. O mural de @maismenos , 𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮́𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝘇𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗷𝗼𝘀 𝗱𝗮 𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗱𝗲, foi renovado e volta a ocupar o seu lugar como um dos símbolos mais marcantes da arte urbana portuense.
