The world record for biggest bagpipe ensemble was broken in Melbourne on Wednesday, with 374 pipers playing in unison. The ensemble played AC/DC's It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll) to a crowd of thousands. It broke the previous record, set in Bulgaria in 2012, by 41. Two of the Gold Coast Tweed Pipes and Drums Pipers and 4 of our studBenowa State High Schooltate High School made the trip there to be part of this amazing event. Our pipers Cameron Murray and Mac Hamilton were joined by Benowa High Students Jasper, Cameron, Zach and Jack to all play on the day along to this legendary AC/DC song which includes a bagpipe solo. The original film clip for the song from the 1970's was filmed with the band playing on the back of a truck heading through the streets of inner city Melbourne, joined by the Rats of Tobruk Pipers, with 2 of the original rats of Tobruk from the film clip playing on stage as well at this 2025 event.
