Thank you to all those who joined us for the @seedartistseries this past Saturday to gather with Macro Waves to share in such a thoughtful, generous, and open exchange. We are deeply grateful for the presence each of you brought into the space. Your generous energy, reflections, and willingness to engage helped shape the afternoon into something truly alive. We also want to extend our appreciation to the artists of @macro.waves for welcoming us into their studio and practice with such care and intention. Their work reminded us of the importance of collective imagination and the role that community—and our participation within it—plays in shaping more expansive futures. #bayareaart #macrowaves #artpractice#bayareaartistscollective #interdisciplinary#community #bayareaarts #studio #studiovisit

💡On Thursday, October 2nd from 2:30 to 9:00pm, SMARTBOMB curates "WAVES OF KNOWING", a dynamic program of performance and activations at SFMOMA, featuring live video projections by Macro Waves @macro.waves within "Vibration Is An Invitation" held in the White Box Room on the 4th floor from 3:30-6:30. [🎟RSVP LINK in BIO] Macro Waves is a Bay Area, CA-based creative collective producing experiences centered on social justice, conceptual art, new media, and design. As artists, designers, and technologists of color, the collective embraces collaboration in their creative practice of transforming spaces into places for human connection, exploration, and play. In 2015, the collective was founded by Robin Birdd David and Jeffrey Yip and includes members Anum Awan, Dominic Cheng, and Ruka Kashiwagi. “WAVES OF KNOWING” is a collective gathering of energy curated by SMARTBOMB and including over 20 Bay Artists sharing performance, visuals, films, poetry and more. Using a San Francisco Art Institute gathering from 1949, The Unknown, as a point of departure “WAVES OF KNOWING” explores the power of collective thought, motion, and creation. Rather than focusing on what is “Unknown” in the future, this experience serves as a reminder, that with openness and presence, we already know the path and can find our way forward together.  SMARTBOMB x SFMOMA presents "WAVES OF KNOWING" Thursday 10.2.25 2:30-9pm ALL AGES + This event is FREE after 4pm to all bay area residents! Thanks to everyone who participated in our latest project, Home Without Borders in partnership with @grayareaorg . A special gratitude to those that helped make this project happen @nomorewhitewomen2 , @turner__w , @radiotruc . Community contributions from: Soph Diaz-Muca (substack: san freecisck), Wolf Boxuan Chen @wolfboxuanchen , Angelica Macalisang @angelica__lyka , Irish Tee-Sy @_t__sy sy, Michaela Vachuska @micha.online69 , Skywaterr @skywaterr , Liz Purple daijobu.liz, debbie ly @debbly , J. Yuru Zhou @fieldednotes . Commissioned by @sf_arts_commission as part of the city-wide Shaping Legacy initiative, this unique exhibit will bring a new hybrid physical/digital monument to life through the direct creative contributions of community members. Due to billions of dollars being spent on surveillance technology for ICE under the Trump administration, there has been an alarming increase in mass deportations as the raids continue to escalate. As we focus our attention on the violent ways in which ICE uses technology to surveil, detain, and deport, we must continue to protect and uplift each other as a form of resistance. Home Without Borders is a collaborative community art project that encourages intersectional resistance through celebrating immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Through shared stories, performance, and workshops, this project acts as a tribute to immigrant resilience and their contributions to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Save the date for the opening reception of Home Without Borders on August 14. In partnership with @grayareaorg , Home Without Borders is a community engagement project that encourages intersectional resilience through celebrating immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. This project is commissioned by @sf_arts_commission as part of the city-wide Shaping Legacy initiative, a multi-year commitment to critically examine the monuments and memorials of the San Francisco civic art collection. This unique exhibit will bring a new hybrid physical/digital monument to life through the direct creative contributions of community members. We are excited to have Truc Nguyen, @radiotruc who will be doing an audio-visual performance exploring the process of blending a refugee’s past with their child’s first time to their motherland. Set in Vietnam, it’s a true story where everything happens all at once, a reminder that what came before lives alongside us. Truc Nguyen (they/them) is a Vietnamese queer artist whose work with sound began while training at Bay Area public radio station, KALW. They were a fellow at The Intercept and helped relaunch San Francisco’s queer radio show, Out In The Bay. They were an artist in residence at the Dresher Ensemble where they developed this story into a live radio experience. Recently they composed music and edited a series of stories for Kearny Street Workshop and is an Audio Engineering Fellow at KALW. Location: Gray Area, 2665 Mission St San Francisco CA 94110

Please join us for Digital Defense for Immigrants, a training for activists, organizers, and members of immigrant communities who may face digital threats and repression facilitated by Turner Willman @turner__w in partnership with @grayareaorg x @macrowaves . We keep us safe! From travel bans to ever-expanding detention centers, our immigrant rights are under attack. Yet, everyday people and community members are rising up to defend their loved ones and neighbors. This 1.5-hour training will cover best practices and tools to protect your devices, private data, accounts, and communications. Together, we’ll learn about high-tech surveillance used against us, how our devices and online activities can impact our privacy and security, and how to manage and reduce our risk. Turner Willman is working to grow an abolitionist Asian America amidst a rising tide of fascism. They are an organizer and digital strategist who brings over a decade of experience to racial justice movements. Since 2018, Turner has worked with the national Asian American organization, 18 Million Rising @18millionrising , on issues such as immigrant rights, gentrification, policing, and more. They have developed the leadership of thousands of Asian American organizers through political education campaigns, trainings and events. Prior to 18MR, Turner worked at MediaJustice, where they defended internet access and technology rights in BIPOC communities, as well as resisted high-tech policing and surveillance of activists. Please join us for a clay making workshop guided by visual artist Victor Saucedo, @nomorewhitewomen2 . In this workshop, participants will create their own monuments and memorials using Mexo air dry clay. The instructor will teach the participants how to sculpt clay guided by the following prompt: “What does home mean to you?” Afterwards, participants will 3D scan the objects that they have created which will be viewable within an interactive gallery environment for a culminating art exhibition at the Gray Area Gallery. In partnership with @grayareaorg , this workshop is part of a larger community engagement project, Home Without Borders, which celebrates immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. We had the opportunity to collaborate with the many DJs, promoters, artists, & organizers for the recent B.A.S.S. (Bay Area Solidarity Strike) to raise a strike fund for artists who have withdrawn from a planned Boiler Room event in SF. We decided to make a zine for the event to further explain the boycott as well as turn the zine into visuals for the evening. An experiment in the making, the visuals turned into a sort of teach-in rave! Looking forward to supporting organizing work in this way. So holla at ya collective if u need support! TYSM to those that donated to the zine! We made back the printing costs and are now selling the zine at @coneshapetop @lowergrandradio , 100% of the proceeds will go to supporting artists withdrawing from KKR-owned Milkshake Festival, so please support! The BASS Strike Fund is a financial resource that will ensure that artists boycotting Boiler Room (in response to its recent acquisition by KKR, a private equity and investment firm with continued investment in Israeli tech and data firms as well as connections to weapons manufacturers and defense contractors) is a viable option regardless of financial need. Through mutual aid, our community can make a material impact and ensure that withdrawal of labor is sustainable for Bay Area arts workers.

🎶 June 6, B.A.S.S: Bay Area Solidarity Strike! DJs came together in Oakland to say no to Boiler Room and its parent company KKR, which invests in the genocide of the Palestinian people. This event brought together various artists of all types for an incredible day combining music, political education, art, vending, food, and community, all while raising funds for DJs on strike, eSims, and critical aid for children in Gaza. Together, we showed that Boiler Room has no place in the Bay and that artists everywhere overwhelmingly stand with Palestine! Hear more about Artists Against Apartheid, this event, and our upcoming organizing at our general meeting: 🗓️⏱️Sat, June 14 • 10AM 📍1499 Fruitvale Ave • @oaklandliberationcenter —— ✨Live visuals and political ed. zine: @macro.waves 📸 Supporting stills and footage courtesy of: @crushed_mag @macro.waves @kira_is_cold
