Congrats to @noshows for reaching over 4 million streams on “Used to It”! 👏🏼👏🏼 We filmed the video we for the song at @maasbuilding in Philly. Such a great space!
Shande (שאַנדע): A ‘shande’ is a damn shame. A Yiddish epithet whose frightful power is reserved for only the most disgraceful offenses under heaven, it is a devastating word to the Jewish ear. But for Jack Braunstein’s experimental 12-piece folk-rock ensemble from Philadelphia, it’s an oddly fitting name. With explosive politics and off-puttingly beautiful arrangements, their music is a strange and compelling new entry into the long lineage of diaspora Jewish songwriters demanding more of this world.
Inspired by the boundary-crossing approach of Clube Da Esquina–the community of Brazilian musicians, composers and poets centered around Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges in 1970s Belo Horizonte–Shande features a collective of friends and collaborators from the worlds of free-improv creative music, klezmer and freak folk writing and performing arrangements for Braunstein’s stark and knotty songwriting. The result is a uniquely rewarding listen that speaks in love and rebuke to our disintegrating world. Their debut album Hereness (דאָיִקייט) will be released on 12/13/2025 on Peace Isn’t Luck and Como Tapes.
The release show will feature the core band of Braunstein on guitar, clarinet, and vocals, And Keller (Snow Caps, Hermit Thrushes) on bass and Dan Lynch (Loamer, Boone) on drums, joined by Melinda Rice on violin/viola, Andrew Gioanetti on woodwinds, Karen Smith on percussion and more special guests to be announced.
There will also be sets by @ther_ther_ther and @songpeople_
It all takes place on Saturday, December 13th 8PM (Doors 7:30) at the Maas Building located at 1325 N. Randolph Street (nearest MFL/L1 station is Girard). This is also the final Fire Museum Presents show for 2025. Tickets and info at the link in bio.

Got a couple more shows for ya before the year is out. First up, tonight @ MAAS Presents: Ben Cocchiaro + Gabriel Furtado - CD Release Party! with Andy McLeod
Gabriel Furtado and Ben Cocchiaro’s new album ranges from intricate, hypnotic arrangements of traditional and contemporary fiddle tunes to raggy bastardizations of 18th century fuguing hymns. Opener is fingerstyle guitarist Andy McLeod, a master of building connections between the string music of other people, places and times.

Jon Mueller and Tom Lecky’s sound and visual meditation, All Colors Present will be performed throughout the United States in autumn 2025. These performances also help celebrate the relaunch of arts platform Table of the Elements, which the project is affiliated with.
All Colors Present exemplifies Mueller's singular performance idiom as an awe-inspiring display of elegant athleticism, preternatural focus, brute restraint, and ecstatic, monastic reverie. Paired with slowly-shifting video of Tom Lecky's photographs, it becomes a deliberate focus on form, shape and detail. It requires and demands a state of inner quietude from witnesses. Yet, from this seemingly metronomic exercise blossoms every possible tint and hue of infinite spectral sound.
Jon Mueller studied jazz drumming with Hal Russell at Columbia College in Chicago, and singing with La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela at the Kirana Center for Indian Classical Music in New York. A prolific performer, he tours extensively and has appeared at festivals and venues throughout the United States, Canada, England, Europe and Japan.
In addition to his solo work, Mueller has collaborated and performed with groups such as Mind Over Mirrors, Volcano Choir, Collections of Colonies of Bees, and Pele. He has also worked with artists including Olivia Block, Aaron Turner, Faith Coloccia, Dawn Springer, Chris Hefner, Jason Kahn, Hal Rammel, Asmus Tietchens, Z’EV, Rhys Chatham, Jarboe, James Plotkin, Duane Pitre, and Raymond Dijkstra. He has released music on renowned labels such as Table of the Elements, Type Recordings, Important Records, Taiga Records, SIGE Records, and American Dreams.
Jon Mueller + Tom Lecky: All Colors Present makes it's Philly premiere on Wednesday, October 8th 7:30PM at the Maas Building located at 1325 N. Randolph Street (nearest MFL/L1 station Girard), Also performing are Erik Ruin's Ominous Cloud Ensemble (only 2025 appearance) & Christina Gesualdi/Jesse Kudler duo. Tickets and info link in bio.
See you there!
The duo of Christina Gesualdi and Jesse Kudler explores the inter-dependence of movement and sound, with the boundaries between dancer and accompanist deliberately troubled; hierarchies between audio and visual constantly shift as byproducts of either medium become examined or picked up for elaboration in the other. The duo has been performing in art galleries, dance spaces, and concert venues since 2018. Christina Gesualdi is a Philadelphia-based dancer, choreographer, improviser and teacher. She has danced in projects of Annie Wilson, Dawn Pratson, Megan Bridge, Curt Haworth, and Nicole Bindler. All into the process soup: attending to sensation, gentleness, listening, failing/flailing, queering, patience, indirectness and collaboration. Christina is a past member of Mascher Space and a community member at The Art Room Studio. Jesse Kudler is a musician, composer, performer, and sound artist who plays and works with guitar, electronics, pipe organ, recordings, synthesizers, radios, tapes, movement, and text. His work is based in listening, improvisation, and collaboration (with people, devices, sites, and spaces) to explore ambiguous affects, perception, time, authorship, intention, agency, and modes and practices of listening.
Christina Gesualdi & Jesse Kudler duo perform on Wednesday October 8th 7:30PM at the Maas Building located at 1325 N. Randolph Street (nearest MFL/L1 station Girard).
Also performing are Jon Mueller + Tom Lecky: All Colors Present (upcoming release on @tableoftheelements and Erik Ruin's Ominous Cloud Ensemble (first and probably only show of 2025). Tickets and info link in bio.

So very thrilled to welcome folk legend Kath Bloom and David Shapiro back to Philadelphia!
Monday October 6th, 2025
@maasbuilding
1325 N. Randolph Street,
Philadelphia, PA
Doors at 7pm
$15-20
@kathbloomofficial is a quietly legendary artist. Bloom started releasing music in the late 70s through New Haven, CT based micro-label Daggett Records, and later St. Joan Records. While these records did not attract much attention in their day they are now hailed as forgotten masterpieces of fragile, introspective folk. Bloom would then take a long pause from performing or releasing music publicly, though she never stopped writing. In the late 90s Bloom reemerged with occasional releases and performances.
In 2017 she began collaborating with guitarist David Shapiro, who is known for his work under solo moniker, Alexander, as well as performing with psych wanderers Headroom and experimentalists Center. This collaboration has led to a resurgence in Bloom’s career. She is performing and touring more than ever and is recording more new material than she has for some time. In 2020 @dearliferecs released the album Bye Bye These Are The Days, and those sessions also birthed the three tracks of the 2022 Long Way To Go Home 7” on @csiterecordings
Also on the bill is Philadelphia singer-songwriter @carabethsatalino , whose gorgeous 2024 album Little Green on @worriedsongs hasn’t strayed more than a foot from my turntable since it’s release. 🌿
Opening up the night is a very special and rare solo performance by Loveraisin (mirra of Wrinkle), who also contributed the beautiful painting for our flyer.
It all adds up to what should be a perfect fall evening. Trust me folks, you’ll want to come here.

"One of this album’s many strengths, to my mind, is its willingness to find a language, a mode, and not interfere with it too much. These songs are built by slow accretion. They’re purposeful. I think of a ceaseless fabric, reminiscent of Wilburn Burchette’s Psychic Meditation Music—listening to this music can render you gummy, stir you into putty, spackle you in the cracks. It would be a mistake to believe that it is simple because it seems as if it could go on forever".---Chelsea Hogue Ohlman IL 2022 (notes for "Old Glow" release by Wheatie Mattiasich on Open Mouth Records)

See you there!
Wheatie Mattiasich is a songwriter from Baltimore, Maryland who began performing solo works around 2004. Her music of the last decade has been mostly collaborative - involving mountain dulcimer and folk ballad inspired vocals, alongside multi-instrumentalist Stephen Santillan.
