🌍IMAL GNAWA 🔥 MOROCCAN GNAWA MEETS FUTURISM 🔥 // SUNDAY, JUNE 7 at Rhoneymeade Arboretum @rhoneymeade ✨
Imal Gnawa @imalgnawa stands at the intersection of traditions rooted in the deep spiritual and rhythmic legacy of Moroccan Gnawa music and bold futurism. Combining tribal acoustic elements with electronic aesthetics, the group creates a soundscape that is as timeless as it is avant-garde, a living bridge between centuries.
Here the talents of Eilon Elikam, Andrew Fox, and Atlas Phoenix weave together the organic warmth of acoustic instruments with the realms of electronic sound. ⚡
In their hands, music becomes not just an art form, but a force that transforms hearts and affirms the universal power of sound to connect and heal. 💫

Imal Gnawa, a New York City–based ensemble formed by musicians from different regions of Morocco representing distinct schools, brings a full Gnaoua set to the evening. Often described as “Sufi Blues,” their music carries centuries of history through guembri, qraqeb, and layered percussion, building a rhythmically immersive and trance-like atmosphere.
They will be joined by a special guest artist whose work bridges research and reinterpretation of Moroccan musical traditions. Through voice, melody, and percussion, the guest expands on the ceremonial pulse established by Imal Gnawa, creating a rich dialogue of tradition and contemporary expression.
The evening invites deep listening, subtle movement, and reflection, honoring lineage while opening the music to a modern, intimate setting.
Artist announcement coming soon. Limited seating.

I first heard gnawa music back in the blogosphere days and it changed the way I thought I about music forever. So, I’m extremely excited to be releasing a new cassette from the terrific NYC based gnawa group @imalgnawa About this release: Twilight Prophecy reveals their process of integrating time-honored Gnawa practices with experimental production, extending the tradition into contemporary space.Gnawa music is ancient psychiatry. Emerging from centuries of spiritual practice in Morocco, it blends North African mysticism with Islamic, pre-Islamic African, and Jewish ceremonial elements. At its center lies the lila—an all-night healing ceremony where musicians invoke specific spirits through repetitive rhythms and the deep resonance of the low pitched, three stringed guembri, guiding participants into trance states for therapeutic and transcendental purposes. This shamanic practice uses music as a bridge between worlds, creating space for spiritual transformation and communal healing.
Atlas Phoenix, Eilon Elikam, and Andrew Fox work at the intersection of Moroccan Gnawa tradition and contemporary electronic music. Drawing from the ceremonial rhythms and spiritual practices of Gnawa culture, they layer guembri, drum machines, and synthesizers into compositions that move between meditative and kinetic states. Twilight Prophecy reveals their process of integrating time-honored Gnawa practices with experimental production, extending the tradition into contemporary space. Due out Jan. 30th
