This film documents the installation of the five cast aluminium forms against the dense architectural backdrop of the city, where the work was conceived to introduce a quieter, more wind-worn presence within the surrounding public realm.

🔥 Ever wondered how a staircase becomes a piece of art?

Set within the Hampshire countryside, we followed the craftsmanship behind Fortnum and Mason’s new double helix staircase, starting with the balustrade scroll work hand forged by @forging_matters . Every scroll shaped by hand, every curve made with intention.
Shooting in a dark workshop came with its challenges, although the glow of the forge and the shadows around it added a depth you only get on site.

Engineering elegance at Fortnum & Mason.
From fabrication to final flourish, Littlehampton Welding is proud to have brought the iconic double helix staircase at @fortnums to life - a true fusion of craftsmanship and engineering within the heart of Piccadilly.
Each stair section and all balustrades were meticulously fabricated and finished in our Sussex workshops before being installed by our team on site with absolute precision.
The staircase spans four levels of Fortnum & Mason’s new central atrium, featuring over 3,000 hand-crafted elements; including scrolls within the balustrades forged by blacksmiths, hand-cast decorative flowers, and wooden handrails and stair treads expertly fitted by skilled carpenters.
From workshop fabrication to on-site installation, this project stands as a celebration of British craftsmanship, collaboration, and design innovation.

After months of precision engineering and expert metalwork, we’re proud to see the Gordon Murray Automotive sculpture recieve so much positive feedback at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Showcasing the groundbreaking T.50 alongside the legendary BT52, Designed by Gerry Judah and brought together by the LWL team. We fabricated every component, engineered bespoke car mounts, and welded it all together on site at the end, with invaluable support from Southern Cranes & Access.

The energy kicked off in spectacular style with a thrilling flypast by the legendary @rafredarrows – an aerial display that never fails to stir pride and excitement in equal measure.
Later in the day, the iconic Central Feature sculpture—designed by @gerryjudah and fabricated and installed by our team—became the centrepiece for a stunning display of Gordon Murray-designed cars. From the record-breaking Brabham BT52 to the revolutionary T.50, the collection offered a rare close-up of decades of automotive innovation.

Unveiled at this year’s @goodwood@fosgoodwood , the 2025 Central Feature is another bold and breathtaking statement by sculptor @gerryjudah . We’re proud to have brought the vision to life with our team’s precision fabrication and installation work.
Commissioned to celebrate the legendary automotive designer Gordon Murray, the sculpture showcases two of his most iconic machines: the T.50 supercar—also known as the “Fan Car”—and the Brabham BT52. Soaring above the Festival’s famous hillclimb route, the piece captures the aerodynamic innovation and engineering brilliance that define the @gordonmurrayautomotive legacy.
Working alongside engineers Diales and Gerry Judah’s team, our role was to deliver complex structural fabrication that seamlessly balanced form, function, and sheer scale.
It’s an honour to continue our long-standing involvement with the Festival’s most recognisable landmark.
