(sound on) Looking through my photos from Japan reveals my obsession… listening bars and quiet kissas; showrooms, museums, art installations and immersive experiences; audiophile expos, jazz bars, buddhist temples, tea houses, record stores… sound equipment shops…
I am educating myself to understand the art of deep listening. And it’s an education you can only truly get in Japan.
This is a culture with a century of history, built around a unique religious-like reverence for recorded sound and music. It’s a country of masters who will dedicate their lives to perfecting a single craft. Here, that craft is the reproduction of sound.
In Japan, I’ve felt music in a way I never thought possible. It’s been like hearing for the first time, over and over again.
In the process, I’m piecing together not just a sound system, but an understanding. This understanding, this deep connection to sound, is what I’ll bring back and share, in a new way, here in Mexico City.
The ruins of Mexico City’s new airport last May.
Looked more like Mars than Earth.
Check out @melvinlara for amazing shots of his project documenting the area through many visits.
china is stillness and speed; tradition and progress between mountains and megacities- people and technology, soul and sacrifice.
thanks @patobichara for tagging me along
moved from the drums to the lens to capture fam @_edgarmondragon + @imgn.xyz ’s show @pitchforkcdmx . took a huge risk with the double exposure but I loved the result.
