Up in the Bell Tower at Venice Biennale Musica, with light design by @mfo.light.space ✷
Spending two months of this year in Venice for the @labiennale residency has been one of the most magical times of my life. So many new beautiful souls, boundless listening & devotion to music… I will forever hold this experience close to my heart!
Thank you @cat_barbieri for the invitation and all the Biennale staff, especially @margheritamorucci & @beatricemosole (our helping angels).
Long live La Stella Dentro!
Commissioned by La Biennale di Venezia.

Up in the Bell Tower premieres October 15th at Venice Biennale Musica!
Two years ago, I began recording bells across Europe — from my home village in the Black Forest to Stockholm, Berlin & Venice. Taking inspiration from 17th-century English change ringing and the indeterminate phasing of free-swinging bells, these close-mic’d bell recordings are juxtaposed with their physically-modelled digital counterparts; bells cast in code, their density, geometry, and harmonic structure remapped.
Thank you @cat_barbieri & @labiennale for this opportunity.

Next week I will perform Up in the Bell Tower at Malmö Konsthall as part of the CC Hennix retrospective. Hennix is one of my heroes and it is a great honour to be part of this.
For this rendition of the piece I will expand on the Venice version with bells recorded in Malmö.

With a glance cast downward and a tolling strike, darkness cloaks the spinning figure…
We share some recent work from our first show at @lightandsounddesign in Brooklyn earlier this year!

Today @___minua release the final part of Bodies of Water, a 2-hour trilogy, into the world.
We have been playing together for over 10 years now, and across 8 records the project has been in constant alteration.
To me, this trilogy feels like a true portrait of our expanse: long-form compositions alongside more song-like structures, with our complete instrumentarium of various plucked instruments, bass clarinet, euphonium, serpent, synthesis, organ…
Making music with Kristinn, Fabi, and Raphaël contains a musical lifetime, and I’m in constant awe of their sensitivity and instrumental prowess.

Resonant Bodies
A dulcimer and an electromagnetic field. The rumble of the drum. Slowly, a church bell, the body.
A night of sound and movement, improvisation and experimentation.
