Frost warning tonight, and as I covered my chile peppers and carried my houseplants back inside I reflected on this song, which uses the phenomenon of “blackthorn/blackberry winter”, a cold snap late in spring when the blackberries are blooming, to frame the feeling of missing someone and trying to keep yourself together until you see them again.
This was the last song we finished for the record, and we kinda rushed it. There’s too much to do but I’d like to re-record it someday, I’m not happy with the vocals really. It’s taken on a life in the live show where I play the cello my bandmates play drums and reverb-y guitar, with some really satisfying harmonies.
Anyway, cover your plants if it’s cold tonight!
