@joerobinetbushcraft is onto something. As a wilderness expert and father, he knows a thing or two about adaptation and survival, but after a tragic loss followed by a life-altering accident, he ran into something not many of us can’t run away from - grief. So when it hit him, he went to the wilderness to figure it out. I get it. When my brother passed, I did the same - and by same I mean exploring, hiking, kayaking - not sleeping on moss. ;) Since this film’s release it’s seen a lot of success. It’s about to join the 200K club, had some great live screenings and my man @yunchampurrado just got nominated for Best Editing in Documentary Short by @canadiancinemaeditors . I want to send a shoutout to director/cinematographer @adamppedersen who literally carried the film on his back. As much as I love what’s on screen, as a former cinematographer I know how complicated it is to film this deeply remote shoot out in the woods, to portage and camp with gear, all while trying to shape the story of a subject whose used to telling his own. Been meaning to share this for a while, but it's been busy.  So for this Black Futures Month, had to celebrate this beautiful family one more time.   For the Culture with Amanda Parris S2 is available on YT. This show understands the impact of history on our lived experience in the present and even though answers can be scarce, asks better questions to build a path towards our future.  The work and dedication of this team is both a testament to the incredible storytellers we have in this country and the power of diverse perspectives to teach us new ways of seeing everyday. If you care about food sovereignty, about the impact of tourism, about dating, about mental health, about a future for your children, about a different approach to policing and harm reduction – this one’s for you. And if that's too deep, just watch it on mute and pretend it’s a travel show because it’s beautiful too. 😌 Link in bio

Today my brother would've been celebrating his birthday. Still feels unimaginable that he's not here for it. But Marlon I see signs that you are watching and I hope you know that even a little broken, we're still together.

Last festival stop of the year goes to @whisfilmfest . Had the wonderful opportunity to speak with the latest Doc Lab cohort in the mountains, see my man @strombo doing what he does best, and run roundtables and speed dating with a ton of filmmakers and creatives. Thanks for the invite and also the space for me to step away for a bit to be alone in nature. The first anniversary of my brother’s passing fell right in the middle and the wilderness has been the best medicine.
