dense 80 minutes of Armenian sonic experience curated woes and hopes that took almost 1,5 years to compile, challenging culturally dichotomized environment and being guided by shepherd’s call through the highlands, outspoken classical legacy, rare folk, diaspora lyricism, restaurant music, hayati trap, 2000s comedy shows and film extracts to immerse deep into Armenian mentality and vision.

I had this show in mind for several years and happy to have finally put it together. As a sequence to Armenian classical I did a while ago, I am showcasing lesser known Armenian avant-garde and contemporary classical with some beautiful pieces by legendary composers from Armenia and diaspora giving context on the state of academic contemporary classical music in Armenia nowadays.
This show is special and has a rather short tracklist as i tried to play pieces in their if not entire but significant length, or mixing some shorter parts together that feel relevant to me. I am personally in love with the choral piece Amazingly Pure and simple things!!!

Valentin Clastrier (FR)
Acclaimed modern hurdy-gurdy virtuoso, Valentin Clastrier is one of the few performers in the world specializing in contemporary music for the instrument; before Clastrier, it was used primarily in the performance of European Medieval and folk music. In 1982, he received the Grand Prix du Disque of the Académie Charles-Cros for his album La vielle à roue de l’imaginaire. In 1984, Clastrier was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture for his contributions to music and instrument innovation.

Lucia Kagramanyan is a resident of NTS Radio (Panorama Yerevan) and Radio Alhara - known for her Armenian music features and research, she extends her work that spans selector shows, club DJing, and listening sessions.

You must have heard of Kochari, but there are a hundred varieties of the same dance, and another hundred types of Armenian dance from ceremonial, wedding, funeral to war dances. Speaking about spirituality of dance and contemporary Armenian tradition and ensembles and playing Armenian dances recorded from early 1900s till my own field recording from @akunq_ethnographic_ensemble , who I had the honor of visiting while doing my research.
Grateful to have met and interviewed @aripari.am founder and artist Hamazasp Aslanyan, who contributed greatly to the content of the show.
