Thin Places - a collection of works I’ve created over the past 2 years - will be on show at the hippest joint @thecoreinternational in June!! Join me on the opening evening on Friday 5th June to have a gander, a lovely beverage and a chit chat about the very red-leaning pieces of work on the walls? ā™¦ļø Chuffed to be asked by @thecoreinternational to present solo for the first time in my beloved hometown! A privilege and a milestone. Hope to see some friendly smiles, all welcome x

Maybe this is my favourite thing I’ve made? I’d like to thank the colour red, for always being my muse and never letting me down šŸ’‹ As yet untitled, it’s a charcoal drawing on cotton through muslin, with a paper mulch artists frame šŸ«† (looking uncannily like a giant wax seal)

The wind in the Rafters Oil on cotton, (protective) artists frame + paper machĆ© Combining historic domestic and architectural elements to create a set-like image that appears somewhat flat but not without the potential of being opened out? Primary (immediate) colours are a go-to palette, informed also by the colours in illuminated manuscripts from the middle ages. The motif of a Harpy (medieval appropriating Greek half person half bird creature) is repeated, moving in and out of the framework of the scenes as a consistent ā€˜character’. The papier-machĆ© artists frame also takes reference from the decorative patterned edges in manuscripts, as well as protective symbols inspired by house protection magic. It becomes both picture and object.

The opening of Peripheries last week @ 1853 Studios & Gallery marked the last in a series of exhibitions and events funded by Arts Council England over the past year. @1853studios It’s also my last exhibition at 1853 Studios, marking the end of my 3 years there as Creative Director & Curator! 🄹 Although I left my permanent role in December, I continued to oversee and curate the ACE project through to its end in a freelance capacity, and I’m so happy and proud of what we achieved throughout the project. ā™„ļø Peripheries presents the work of Rabia Begum, Thomas Bradley, Rio Darwin, Kamil Duda, Daisy Fulton, Gemma Lees, Mahrokh Mofid Nakhaei, and Iqra Tariq - each interpreting the theme of periphery. For some it’s the exploration of forgotten or eroding parts of a city or coastline, for some it’s a community found through displacement, and for some it explores those everyday folk that slip into the margins, but take centre stage in this exhibition. The exhibition theme builds on the identity of Oldham as a ā€˜periphery town’, and how in these areas we are free to play, experiment, fail and build new identities for a town. Get over to @1853studios next week to catch the last few days of the show! Open Thursday, Friday & Saturday 11am - 4pm! Head to @1853studios for more info on access ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„ My experience in Oldham has been incredible, to be able to help build such an epic multi-gallery space that serves local creatives and communities here over the last 3 years has been a true honour. Thank you to everyone I’ve met and worked with both in the studios and in the town, it’s become a home from home. A special thank you to Kathy Smith, who has been the most energetic, positive and inspiring Creative Producer for this ACE project over the last 9 months - nothing could have happened without your unwavering support and energy ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„ I’m moving towards just freelancing for a while, focussing on roles in different settings such as heritage and collections, something I’ve wanted to build more experience in for a long time! Oh and a bit more time on my own practice ā˜ŗļø Over and out !!!

Struts, 2026 Oil on board, artists frame This one was conceived from an idea for a painting that had been brewing in the back for a while, only to be brought alive by an exhibition theme given by @nurture.ig for their group show at @thecoreinternational ! It considers what I do behind closed doors, and a lot of it involves shedding a costume and a persona. There’s a figure in here loosely based on a discarded and retired mannequin frame I discovered presented behind glass in a catholic monastery in Madeira. There were loads of them all lined up, unclothed, revealing their basket skirts and basic bodices, clearly very well used and almost waiting to be picked again. Even though they weren’t in use they were still on show Thanks for involving me @nurture.ig @thecoreinternational !!!

A view of this little painting/drawing against the side of the first steps. It draws on our location at the base of the humble Werneth Low, and being in a more rural environment than I’ve ever been in my life! Also featuring our new door curtain that’s continuing to help with keeping warmth in during these colder windy snaps šŸŒ¬ļø

Bell house oil on chipboard, handmade wood frame I’ve developed an interest in bells recently, particularly how they were the audible backdrop to medieval village life, punctuating time for both spiritual and domestic purposes. But it’s also their shape and physicality. There’s more to be explored here, but here’s a diddy first step (23 x 19cm to be precise)
