Oshorenoya David Francis & 1853 Studios present âIn Solitude, Fantasies & Becomingâ
Youâre warmly invited to In Solitude, Fantasies & Becoming, a solo exhibition by Oshorenoya David Francis at 1853 Studios, Mill 1 Gallery, Osborne Mill, Oldham, Manchester.
Rooted in his lived experience as a Nigerian immigrant in the UK, after moving to pursue a better life and completing his Masterâs degree, he chose to remain and continue growing both as an artist and as an individual. Through his work, Oshorenoya documents intimate moments of solitude, spaces shaped by reflection, emotional struggle, resilience, and self-discovery.
Living away from family and navigating life independently, his journey is marked by both vulnerability and strength, capturing the reality of becoming. The exhibition also reflects his dreams and aspirations, painting visions of success, longing, and future possibilities.
Ultimately, his works reveal how solitude can become a powerful force in shaping identity and personal transformation.
Join us for the opening on 15th May 2026, 6â9pm, with the exhibition continuing 16thâ17th May, 11amâ4pm. Curated by Obi Nwaegbe and Natasha Virli. We look forward to welcoming you.

TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT! Tonight we open our brand new Mill 2 Gallery! đđđđ
We have spent the last year planning and building this incredible gallery and we couldnât be happier with how itâs turned out. Itâs truly one of a kind, with expansive exhibition and performance space, and spectacular views of the Manchester skyline.
We also cannot express our gratitude enough to all of the tradespeople, friends and studio residents that have helped bring this together. We couldnât have done it without you. The biggest thank you to our Garry, who has worked tirelessly to make this place absolutely stunning (you wonât really see him featured but heâs integral to our project)!
Tonight the gallery opens with this beautiful show by @benjaminsebastian and we couldnât imagine anything more fitting and powerful for the opening.
Preview tonight 6-9PM (all welcome just turn up!) or book to view on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays during the run (tomorrow til 10 May) - link in biođĽđĽ

Inspired by my on going project âMade in Persiaâ, this work moves into the next chapter of my journey.
A response to the âPeripheriesâ exhibition and the works of artists @1853studios through the workshop:We Need to Keep This House
Behind every woman like me stands the shadow of fear, punishment, censorship, and the constant threat designed to silence us.But we are still here.Still creating.Still resisting.
The fight continues.

"Mahrokh Mofid Nakhaei is an Iranian painter based in Manchester. She completed an MA in Painting at Manchester School of Art in 2024 and was part of the second cohort of the Apollo Painting School programme.
Her practice explores interior space, perception, and the relationship between painting and architecture. Working primarily with oil on canvas, she creates paintings designed to be installed in corners and transitional spaces within galleries, examining how the placement of an artwork can shift the viewerâs perception.
Through interconnected series, she constructs quiet interior scenes based on staged photographs, combining architectural elements, recurring motifs, and a restrained colour palette to evoke memory, atmosphere, and a sense of belonging"
