In late 2021, @vanmaltese and I began working through Enzo Mari’s instructions for the Sedia 1 chair, initially published in ‘Proposta per un’autoprogettazione’, his 1974 catalogue of open-source furniture. Two VERY slow years later, we had finally completed three unique interpretations, titling them Sedia 1, Sedia 2, and Sedia 3. This project was an exercise in doubt, frustration, and curiosity—neither of us had ever built chairs before. Throughout the process, we found ourselves reflecting on our reasons for choosing to work through this particular chair design at this particular time. ‘I Have Never Built A Chair Before’ is a risograph zine responding to this. It documents our collaborative process and contains 6 written responses to Mari’s ‘Autoprogettazione?’ project by the following contributors: Peter Fleming @fleming_making , Jenine Marsh @jeninemarsh , Jonathan Sabine @msds_ , Manden Murphy @robertapelan , Liam Crockard @liamcrockard , and Hannah Pax - Enkel @hannahilaryenkel ‘I Have Never Built A Chair Before’, 2024, 3 colour risograph cover with b&w interiors, 5 x 8 inches - edition of 100. Each edition comes with a folded set of instructions that includes the measurements and material specifications used for building our versions of Mari’s chair. Printed in Toronto by @colourcodeprint Published in Toronto by @paul_and_wendy_projects Documentation of completed chairs by @good_work The zines will first be available through @paul_and_wendy_projects at the Multiples, Multiples, Multiples pop up on Sunday, Dec 15 (noon-5 pm) at @artmetropole - 896 College Street, and later through their website -

Some proposals sit on the back burner long enough that I wonder if a concept will become real or not... Then to my surprise the client can come back and say the right time is now : ) Designed what feels like forever ago it now lives! So here is Block Guy designed for @peachboy_shop . Made from solid walnut and veneer. Grateful that there are clients who continue to trust me with these ideas. Fabrication by @heidiearnshawdesign with assistance from Tim Steadman. (And thank you so so much for taking this on!) Designed by me and some fabrication as well (teamwork on this piece.) Photos by my good buddy @stephanienoritz

In the spring of 2019, I took a hand-building ceramic class run by @juliemoooon . Tbh I had a hard time committing to any of the pieces I was working on because I was enjoying the feeling of working with a material that was new and unknown to me. By the end of the course, I finally did commit to some ideas this concept being one of them. Various planters with 'skirts' instead of a simple water tray.  I revisited this design for a proposal I worked on last year (but never came to life) and figured maybe it's time to share on here because you know it's summer and plants and greenery are definitely on the mind! One of my sleep thoughts. This was a drawing from one around 2014-2015? and it felt fitting to rediscover it for a proposal I was working on a few months back. 'Vines' doesn't exist irl still just in my head.

Happy holidays to all : ) I hope everyone is safe and sound in the wild east coast weather we're currently experiencing. Feeling very grateful for all the support this teeny lil' business has received this past year. It's because of all the wonderful friends (new and old), family, amazing clients, and all those who choose to follow and show interest in the work I create that allows me to continue working in my passion and doing what I love. Warm wishes and enjoy this cozy season if you can. Much love, Lauren (the tinker todder). Pictured above : Holiday ornaments of 2022 titled The Dinner Guests (all have unique individual guest names)

My not-so-normal In Out dining table from 2019 that was made just before so much of what was considered 'normal' changed. This tricky design gave me a slap in the face with some good solutions to deal with wood movement. Lessons learned! European Beech wood. Made + designed by me. 📷 @good_work

Last year I designed the space for the children's store @peachboy_shop , this project ended up being one of the funnest I've done. Both the owners were so trusting and willing to take a unique route for their now super welcoming space. Kids or no kids, if you are ever in the Roncesvalles neighborhood totally go check it out! This is just a glimpse of some of the work that was done for them. I will share more soon : ) Stripe's cash desk was fabricated by @kaitlwinter . The Miami Window Screen was fabricated by Neil Botelho. 📸 @good_work

I always seem to resort to using such foundational methods in the process of the things I make. Thought I’d re share this video from the spring :)
