In celebration of Art Metropole's 2026 Art Librarians of North America Conference participation we're taking a moment to highlight our Library Services program. At Art Metropole we build our inventory directly from artists and small presses – and we also work directly with librarians to ensure that these small press titles enter collections. Through our efforts to serve as connector between artist and librarian we can support the wide preservation and circulation of artists' publishing. Art Metropole works closely with public and academic libraries and collections in Canada, the US, and abroad, to develop institutional holdings. Through our library services, we work collaboratively with librarians and curators to build suggestions for collection development based on each organization’s budget and focus. Art Metropole’s extensive inventory of over 16,000 artists’ books and related publications serves as the basis of our suggestions. Please contact [email protected] for further information.

New to the store! 📖 Deux cent soixante-quatorze personnages, Marc-Antoine K. Phaneuf An artist’s book combining literature and graphic design, Deux cent soixante-quatorze personnages is a collection of characters. With minimal poetry—the meeting of a first name and a last name—this chaotic inventory gathers improbable figures, invented or real, encountered by the author or borrowed from popular culture. 📖 The Cat, the Clock and the Rock: Eighteen Fables In January 2025, British artist Ryan Gander shared an open call for OCAD University students to submit original fables with the title “The Cat, the Clock and the Rock”. This is also the title of Gander’s permanent public sculpture commissioned by Lanterra Developments for their Artists’ Alley project at 234 Simcoe Street in Toronto and installed in April 2025. The eighteen stories in this collection were imagined from the title alone, without the students having seen the completed sculpture. The authors are Evan D’Alleva, Paul Richter, Stella Robichaud, Emily Ackerman, Charlie Sheldon, Nik Fults, Ryan Kilmurry, Ihotukowoicho Obande, JP Gans, Erin Guevara-Silva, Elliot Black, Olivia Eyre, A. Morgan, Tiffany Chan, Lauren Dilworth, Maja Rudnicki, Emir Altay, and Anthony Park. 📖 Do Weeds Still Grow in Heaven?, Casey Mecija and Lan "Florence" Yee This publication accompanies the exhibitions Do Weeds Still Grow in Heaven? at Gallery 101, Ottawa and the Southern Alberta Art Gallery Maansiksikaitsitapiitsinikssin, Lethbridge. The bilingual booklet (English and French) features an essay written by Casey Mecija alongside images of the exhibitions. 📖 Words of the Angel, Nora Rosenthal When my mom stopped chemotherapy I began taking photos, mostly Polaroids, of her, her and my dad, her and I, and sometimes just self portraits, as I was waiting around while she slept, thinking about how much my 33-year-old’s body looked like her 68-year-old one. 📖 AH!MERICA, Allen Ginsberg AH!MERICA gathers Allen Ginsberg’s Naropa lectures on William Blake, edited from the original audio archives. The hope is it’s a guide for not losing your mind, or attention, in contemporary America.
