This is the Portland I grew up in.
Not the Portland you see on TV or hear about on the news, this is the Portland that made me who I am today.
I’m home for the holidays so I figured I’d show y’all around where I was raised, where some of the homies were raised too, & everything but the touristy stuff yk.

Man Jacks don’t need me to put y’all on ‘cause everybody in the town knows about Jacks !! An iconic Northeast Portland spot that’s been feeding the community for as long as I can remember. I learned about it from the homie @dannylazenby n my cousin @eastsidebaby_111 learned about it from @vorshaunnavritt_ii 🙇🏽♂️ legendary spot.
Funny thing is, we all went to probably one of the whitest high schools in Portland. Our moms thought it would be good for us lol but the one thing all the Black and brown kids had in common was taking the same bus back to the north / east side. 44 Northbound. Would take almost 2 hours to get back home 😭 but that’s where the real bonds formed. Hitting the McDonald’s otw, crashing at each other’s houses, finding community. That’s how I learned about the neighborhood.
The two spots I remember the most? Jacks and Javiers 🕊️ I don’t think Jacks Chicken has an Instagram but aye, they don’t need one. They’re already a staple. Much love to them for feeding us + letting us film. We got to talk to some locals, learn more about the neighborhood, n share a meal together.
This series is about showing love to the places that don’t ask for it. Who should we pull up on next? DU’s? Don Pedro’s? Maybe a burger spot 👀
