Scenography for the exhibition “Positions On Freedom“ @the.thing.fellowship at Museum Für Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt am Main, 2026 Our freedom is the result of a built environment shaped by an asymmetric history of destruction, construction, and rearrangement. Contrary to its common perception, it is not defined by an abundance of unlimited options, but by the conditions and limits within which choices can be made. The barrier functions as a key motif within this, representing restriction and controlled access. Once removed from its rigid preconception, this structure can be seen as the main agent deciding between its creative potentials. It embodies an ambivalent artifact that reflects the complexity of our struggle and striving for true change.  For the scenography of the show „Positions on Freedom“ at the Museum für Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt am Main, the exhibition design moves this idea into space, exploring how the placement of display architecture alone can determine its liberating or limiting qualities. Reduced to minimal and monumental structures, the monolithic plinths are defined by a repetitive grid of the USM Haller module echoing notions of standardization, accessibility and objecthood. In conversation with the nested spaces of the museum, three distinct situations await the visitor. Each one challenges the viewer’s behavior in relation to what actions are allowed or disallowed.
