In case you were wondering what kind of books I write, you should know, it’s hard to pin me down. Sorry, I’m an Aquarius. 😉 But if you pushed me to define myself, I’d say I’m the unclaimed love child of Zora Neale Hurston and Danielle Steele.
I am most known for my nonfiction, journalism and memoir, but I also write fiction and have several fiction projects in progress. So stay tuned. ⏰
I will say all of my books are infused with my own passions and interests in Blackness, identity, cultural diversity, and more recently, folklore and magic. 📚 If those things are of interest to you, you should check out my books. If you do, I hope you enjoy them.

Hi New Followers! I thought this might be a good time to re-introduce myself.
My name is Lori. I am a storyteller. I am a writer, an author, and a writing coach. I recently launched a new platform called @readwriteandcre8 where I support and celebrate BIPOC writers.
I live a literary lifestyle and I worship in the stacks of bookstores and libraries. Books are my holy and stories are my sustenance. 📚
I firmly believe storytelling ruined the world, but I also believe stories can save us all. 🌻

Sometimes I amuse myself. I don’t know why it took me so long to get to reading @dolenperkinsvaldez latest novel, Happy Land. I’ll blame it on living in Spain.
Lucky for me, my mother had a copy of Happy Land, so when I went to visit, last week, I, of course, gobbled the book up in three days. And I remembered how much I love Dolen’s work. Love❤️❤️❤️.
In case you didn’t know, Happy Land is based on the true story of a free Black community in the mountains of the Carolina’s that was created by formerly enslaved Black people. They organized their community as a kingdom and elected a king and queen.
In the novel, Dolen fills in the backstory and the front story of what happened to Happy Land.
I loved the history lesson, told alongside the contemporary tale of family drama and land theft. I loved the love story and the mother/daughter relationship exploration. Suffice it to say, this book was rich and juicy and it sent me down my own rabbit holes looking for more information about Happy Land.
If you love books about Black people, hidden Black American history, Black love stories, and stories about the land, you will definitely enjoy this book.

If you had told me three years ago that the vision I had for a global community of BIPOC women writers would come to be, a community of super supportive, creative and kind sister scribes, who loved writing and books as much as I do, I wouldn’t have believed it. But here we are. Dream realized.

Who doesn’t love a Black & Bookish Stickers! I am a child of the 80s and have been a sticker collector since then.
I even brought some of my third grade sticker collection to Spain when I moved.
But it wasn’t until I got into bullet journaling that I gave myself permission to restart my sticker collection. Now you can’t stop me. I just wish there were brick and mortar stores here in Spain that sold Black and Bookish stickers. 💃🏾😉
