Every shoot begins with an idea or in this case a problem. How do we connect a great white shark with Kelly Slater in a dynamic way that’s exciting but also not intimating or scary.
The solution we came up with was to create an ethereal visual experience inspired by the ocean.
The sun naturally refracts through water to create this almost hypnotic dance that can often be seen on the ocean floor.
But our inspiration came from the fact that you can also see it on the top of a sharks body.
So with mirrors, water, light, and a great team, we re-created this underwater effect in the studio.

Behind the scenes of Rokael Beauty: Rebirth Collection.
After months of floating ideas back and forth. we put together an amazing piece for Rokael’s new beauty line. Marcus and Luis really honed in what the line should feel and resemble utilizing the skills and equipment we had at our disposal. Luis spent endless hours 3d printing a lot of the set pieces and learning a whole new skill on lasering to create many of the logos and scriptures you see. Marcus’ cinematic robot and previous skills in cinema engineering really brought this to life, but really key to all this together was the insanely talented @laurenwalkup set design skills that made a lot of the practical effects look true to life. special thanks to Load Bearing Studios and Spencer Dryden for letting us use their space and time.
