“PINK NOISE: Women of Color Redefining Nightlife” 💿🩷
For women of color, nightlife has always been community and self expression. Long before curated club culture and social media aesthetics, women of color were shaping the energy of nightlife while rarely being centered within it. From Detroit ghetto tech to underground DJ scenes across the country, they have continuously influenced the sound and atmosphere of these spaces. While also creating room for themselves behind the booth and beyond it.
Detroit carries its own rhythm. The city is deeply tied to music and creative culture. @bigpinklovesyou has become home to many women of color DJs over the years, making it the perfect setting for this campaign. The pink lights, lasers, the memorable tv wall, and movement throughout the space became part of the story itself. A reflection of women creating noise on their own terms while building names for themselves within nightlife.
Featuring Planet KaiA, Thee Xper!ence, TAMAE, 99 and Deity, this campaign celebrates women DJs of different cultures who have become part of the sound and spirit of Detroit. Shot by photographer Lo Brayden, capturing energy through a collective lens. Their graphic work transformed the visuals into something electric and alive. Hair by Mia also added another layer to the project through amazing hair styling that brought shape and movement into every frame. This is PINK NOISE. Loud, intentional, and impossible to ignore.

A self-portrait film series exploring the nighttime rituals of a night owl, inspired by Carrie Mae Weems’ “Kitchen Table Series.”
The mirror in my apartment opens up into the main space. I’m not sure the purpose I think it’s for when I shower to let the steam out. 💀 This project was fun to work on because I got to use all my skills at once: performance, lighting, production design, cinematography, and editing. I wanted the sound to be raw and ambient like you’re in my apartment too. In some scenes I actually forgot I hit record and was acting lol. I dropped this at 3 sumn in the morning because why not, is that not what the series is about? 🧍🏽 Thank you for visiting. 🖤✨
