On June 30th at the @devonojas Listening Room, @180.studios , Cantik Manis joins @linda_from_accounting and @object.blue for a session exploring sweetness in sound and feeling. Inspired by Rahel’s recently published book Cantik Manis — named after the Indonesian dessert translating to “pretty and sweet” — the evening traces a journey through softness, femininity, flirtation, desire and memory through contemporary electronic music and sonic exploration. #180Studios #180TheStrand #ListeningRoom #DevonOjas #DevonTurnbull

Hard launching 𝓒𝓪𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓴 𝓜𝓪𝓷𝓲𝓼 🎀🍰🐜 Named after a beloved Indonesian sweet that translates directly to “pretty and sweet”, the zine moves through memory and recipe in equal measure, reflecting on sweetness as a narrative of beauty, gender, and the politics of perception.
Playful, flirtatious, and full of intention, what begins as a tribute to a childhood favourite opens into a wider meditation on visibility and voice. Traversing across nostalgia to exoticisation, food is positioned as a subject to articulating the complexity of being-in-between cultures, and contexts.

It is also, unexpectedly, a book about dating. I wrote it the year I speedran 8 years of it lmao.

Join us at Climax London next Thursday to celebrate the launch of Cantik Manis, a new book from chef, storyteller and founder of supper club @eatwithsp00ns , Rahel Stephanie. Cantik Manis takes its name from a beloved Indonesian dessert, loosely translated as “pretty sweet”, and unfolds as both a cookbook and a personal essay. Moving through recipes and reflections, the book considers sweetness as a lens through which to understand beauty, gender, and the politics of perception. What begins as a tribute to a childhood favourite opens into a wider meditation on heritage and visibility, with Stephanie’s food not only delicious to make (and eat) but a means to explore memory and cultural complexity. See you there! 💖 Thursday 7th May 6-8pm Climax London 8a Herbal Hill London, EC1R 5EJ

From the Foodhall to the table, Rahel Stephanie of @eatwithsp00ns brought her world to ours. Sourcing ingredients straight from our shelves, she built a menu rooted in Indonesian flavour – then dressed the table with pieces from Home to match.
