Excited to be here in Dallas, Texas, starting rehearsals for Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, the “Symphony of a Thousand” with Maestro @fabioluisiconductor and an amazing lineup of soloists.
I’m especially honored to be making my debut with the @dallassymphony and in a piece that has meant so much to me since the first time I sang it as an undergraduate with the @oberlincollege choir under the legendary Robert Shaw at Carnegie Hall.
It’s special to come back to this incredible work now as a soloist, and I can’t wait to share these performances with the DSO’s audiences.
Growing up, I remember always hearing older people say they “can feel a storm coming” as they rub their knees or elbows, or some other joints that start to ache before the clouds even roll in. That’s what grief feels like to me.
Each year, May 8th is like an approaching storm for me. Long before the date arrives, I can feel that persistent dull ache in my heart growing stronger as this day, the anniversary of my father’s passing, approaches.
Grief is such a strange thing. Some days it sits quietly in the background, and other days it feels as fresh and sharp as the moment the loss first happened. Four years later, and I still catch myself wanting to call him, still hearing his voice in my mind, still missing the comfort of knowing he was here.
Some say that grief is the price we pay for love. And that’s why I believe grief never fully disappears, because neither does the love we carry for those we have lost.

There are voices you hear...and then there are voices you FEEL. 🎶
Tenor Limmie Pulliam @limmiepulliam falls into the second category. In addition to his profound artistry, the journey that took him to a Carnegie Hall debut in his 40s is equally inspiring.
After a decade-long hiatus from the opera in his twenties, Limmie made a triumphant return that has since taken him to the world’s most prestigious stages including a historic debut at The Metropolitan Opera and celebrated performances at Carnegie Hall and the LA Opera.
With Limmie’s incredible ability to make a large concert hall feel like an intimate experience, we can only imagine the sound in the Classical Tahoe Pavilion. You don’t just watch a performance like this...you feel it. ✨

“Opera isn’t for Black people.”
That’s what Limmie was told.
But his story proves otherwise.
Opera is not just an art form. It’s an opportunity. An opportunity for minorities to be seen, to be heard, and to take their place on some of the world’s greatest stages.
In Opera’s Vanishing Voices, Limmie’s journey challenges outdated narratives and reminds us that access and representation matter more than ever.
Because when we open the doors to opera, we don’t just preserve it. We transform it.

In Opera’s Vanishing Voices, Limmie opens up about the moments that shaped him, the obstacles he fought through, and the passion that keeps him singing.
