We are delighted to announce the 2026 INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY artist: JAN KUKUŁKA JAN KUKUŁKA is a printmaker from Poland, where he continues to reside. Graduating in 2023 with Honours from Academy of Fine Art and Design in Katowice, Poland, Jan's work spans multiple mediums with special focus on printmaking, drawing, painting & video. Kukułka’s artistic projects explore human connection and experience of space and time in the digital age.  They tackle concepts such as escapism, nostalgia and ‘deep time’. He is also interested in themes of manufacturing authority by business gurus, political influencers or podcasters.  Jan has been the recipient of multiple awards including Best Debut Award at 12th Polish Print Triennial (2024), Honorary Distinction at International Print Triennial in Kraków (2024), & International Biennial of Miniature Art (2024). His work has featured in numerous domestic & international printmaking exhibitions. @postermodernist will join us @limerickprintmakers this August where he will commence work on a new project exploring correlations between “deep time” and “deep space”, taking inspiration from 19th century prints depicting cosmic & natural phenomena.  LP extends huge thanks to every creative from all over the world who applied for this residency.  We received a record number of applications this year, from a diverse and exceptionally talented cohort of creatives working across the globe. The standard of applicants made the selection process incredibly challenging for our team but only reinforced our conviction that printmaking is a powerful & vibrant artform that is more relevant today than ever. The LP INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY aims to provide an accessible opportunity for printmakers, photographers, & creators to expand and explore their practice in a different studio setting. The award includes high quality accommodation (with costs covered by LP), a cost of living contribution, and a materials stipend. We look forward to welcoming Jan to our space & supporting his aims. Print Network Ireland (PNI) printmaking in Ireland map is online. The aim of this map is to help bring printmaking organisations, groups and students together, to assist in forging future collaborations within the community, as well as visually demonstrating how active printmaking is across Ireland. We’ve had a few new entries since we launched late last year. Included are print studios, print organisations, print groups and regular printmaking workshops providers throughout the island of Ireland. We hope you find the map informative and that it will foster connection and collaboration within the printmaking and the wider visual arts community. The map can be viewed on our website. Thanks to @blackchurchprint @corkprintmakers @graphicstudiodublin @limerickprintmaker @artscouncilireland @visualartsistsireland @IrishMuseums … and all the organisations and groups who agreed to be part of it. #printnetworkirelandmap #interestingmaps #printmakingireland #irishprintmaking

In December I met with the wonderful artist Clodagh Twomey. I was excited to learn about her hand drawn stencil techniques and learn more about the use of symbols in her creative process. We discussed a large portion of her discography, how she went from design to fine art, wild college projects, commission work, print challenges/prompts to her own personal themes. I have found it so rewarding to hear in depth, the intentions of these artists. I am able to hear the extensive artist statements that wouldn’t necessarily be on display in an exhibition. Clodagh was acquainted with my own work so we were able to make connections through our visual art and share our experiences. It’s always when I am in my head the most that someone in the printmakers is there to lift my spirits up again. We spoke about my work and how I can develop my prints and clothing concurrently. Whilst college helped with the quality and intention of my work, I lost confidence with some elements like using symbolism. I felt that in order to use it I must call myself a symbolist and it must all be referenced and recycled from history. Somewhat true, but my perspective, my context was irrelevant. The work of Clodagh, Chris, Gavin and Fiona has encouraged me to create freely. My ideas are worth pursuing. I no longer have someone telling me that something isn’t working, i’ve been through the questioning so now I must believe in my work and myself😛🤟🏼 After speaking with Clodagh I was so excited to implement her techniques into a screenprint. Which may be completed and ready to share really soon🫣

Here is my face. This week I have been mostly printing tree's. I am holding a new handmade silkscreen print ' Burren Pine'. Designed and made in Limerick Printmakers, one of the most important hubs in the city for people involved in Printmaking and the greater community. A large group of artists work from here in many different ways using different processes. I'm very lucky to get to use this place as much as I want, if you have the time or opportunity I do recommend checking this place out, especially Limerick people who don't know what goes on behind the big red door in John's square. That's really it 🙃 James. #studiolife #printmakinglove #limerickprintmaking #irishprintmaker #silkscreen

I met with Fiona Quill in November, member of the printmakers and an educator in LSAD. Having met Fiona a few times during college, I was excited to get to speak with her about her career path and the work she makes alongside it. When prepping for our meeting I was so inspired by her footprint in the art world. Her PHD publication and research about art assessment led me into a deep reflection of my time in art college and I was very pleased that she allowed me to share my experiences. Not to be conceited, but I see parts of myself in her. Her methods and inspirations connected with my own in many ways. Our meeting/conversation is hard to put into words, it was exactly what I needed after college. Her advice and outlook on life reassured me that I am on the right path. Although doubt creeps in more often than I would like, I will take her words with me everywhere I go. We went through some of her work after graduating, up until recent years. In the space of a couple hours, we spoke about techniques, motivations for work, inherent symbolism, presentation of work, selling and the commercial side to the art world and more. I also shared my work which can be quite daunting at times but the reception I received was lovely. Thank you so much Fiona for being so wonderful and sharing your stories and wisdom with me. Thanks again to The Limerick Printmakers for the opportunity. @fionaquillprints @limerickprintmakers 🤍
