PLAY WITH YOUR FOOD was a wonderful and whimsical collaboration with Chefs @the_lulu_stone and @orlioh who took to the occasion, and played, hard! All inspired by the youth in our programmes at the Clubhouse and @windybrowartscentre : our muses to make and play and share. The evening was scored by the masterfreak @thisisjbs and paired with visuals by the one and only @duceduce___ @cammiezoe served all things ceramics and led the @shade_community youth in making. @limb_its curated and played, and alongside @cammiezoe - they even served 🔥 Our gracious kitchen team Ashley, Pride and Eva - thank you for running and playing. @intermission thank you for these treasured time capsules through your photographs. @matthichens thanks for trusting us to play in your home and kitchen @one_park_cpt To all our guests, thanks for showing up - and actually Playing with your Food! Watch this space - Joburg edition coming soon! 📸 : @intermission.co.za Song : Burdland by @thisisjbs Edit : @limb_its

Over the past few months some incredible collaborations have culminated into a feast of wonder, as we took to the streets in a spectacle of dreaming, travelling through time, minds and hearts. So many had a hand in its creation, with deep care and creativity - in dreaming into fruition a reclamation of our future, in building a monochrome world but echoing all colours. From @shade_community @windybrowartscentre @markettheatre & our curators @limb_its and @zygoatboy - we thank you deeply. Groups: @mesorgsa @dlalanje @gcebiledlaminifoundation The Johannesburg Society for the Blind, Shade Youth, @lefikalaphodiso @innovationofexcellence @fightwithinsight_za and the Windybrow’s choir, marimba players, junior art class and literacy group Performance Facilitators: Philani Tensso Mhlanga, Lumka Dumezweni Parade performers: Nkosilathi Ndebele, Leon Chimedza, @mlindeliemmanuel , Brian Ngobese, Market Lab students, @sentech__croozers , Rico Tshesane, Tsogt Bayagalan and Orlando Vargas of @the_cirk Music: @ezasevaalbrassband @thedizzybrains Styles Da Deejay Stage Managers: Noxi Mabuza, Tshepo Matlala Head Fabricator: David Gara Art Team: @2__kamomile_kids Thomas Chihovo, Andrew Whispa, Stuart Ndlovu @th3_rivas69 Percy Zimato, Wisdom Mpofu Wardrobe: Orli Meiri, Gavaza Mthombeni, @kokoz.official Media: @johannesburginyourpocket @thecreatorsroom_magazine_za @joburgphotowalkers Sound and Staging: Atomic Deedays, Muziya Music Catering: @noshfoodrescuenpc Security: Bad Boyz Security, Dean Govender Wardrobe/Props: David Gouldie, @styledwardrobedept @sousrentals @reelhaus Support: Bafikile Mkhize - Hillbrow eKhaya Improvement District, SAPS Hillbrow, @cityofjoburg JRA, JMPD To our partners, @africanreclaimers for the constant support and materials. To the community of Hillbrow and beyond, thank you for sharing this time with us - bendy, loopy, twisty times. 📸 @intermission

Come join us in celebrating Hey Hillbrow! Let’s Dlala! parade as we embark on a mystical adventure of time travel through dreaming. This year promises even more wonder and entanglement as we move through the streets as portals into the past, the future and the now. The playdate is again curated by @limb_its of @shade_community and @zygoatboy in collaboration with the Windybrow Arts Centre. Hey Hillbrow! Let’s Dlala! launched in 2017 and returns this year, its 6th iteration, in celebration of the possibilities that public performance brings to public space; to spread energy, laughter, surprise and provocation and to make visible the wonderful work that several organisations and individuals have continued to do in this complex area regardless of the challenges. A collaborative melange between local youth organisations; Dlala Nje, Shade, Dlamini Foundation, Johannesburg Society for the Blind, Innovation of Excellence, Lefika La Phodiso, Fight with Insight, MES and the Windybrow Arts Centre. We welcome back our favourites, the Ezase Vaal Brass Band who sonically lead and weave us through worlds upon the parade. Another highlight joining us from the sky this year is the Cirk, a descending razzle. The materials supplied by our partners - African Reclaimers Organisation, where waste is being transformed into art and costumes, and the waste reclaimer bag forms the visual language of the entire parade, an homage to the peripheral purveyors themselves. The parade starts at 10am from the Windybrow, followed by our music concert featuring Thamsanqa Vuthela Band, Madagascar’s - The Dizzy Brains and Styles Da Deejay of The Creators Room. Come travel time with us. This day was inspired by the life of Joburg public art super-heroine Lesley Perkes who died in 2015 and who had dreams for this place that others have continued to manifest. Hey Hillbrow! Let’s Dlala would not be possible without the generous support from Arkham’s CID, Badboys Security, Hillbrow Police, @assitej_za , CCBSA, @joburgjaunts , @cityofjoburg , @artsculturesa and our media partner Johannesburg in your Pocket. 🌱🚀🌌🚏🗺️🛸🪐🛰️👁️🪡🕸️🪽🐚🌪️🌬️🎠
