My first quilt pattern, two years in the making, is finally ready to engage. ✨ A Trip Around the Universe ✨ This quilt is my modern take on the classic Trip Around the World pattern, inspired by the Carina Nebula and the colors captured by the James Webb Space Telescope. Seeing this design move from concept to finished quilt, and now to a published pattern has been incredibly meaningful. My design highlights the movement of the famous Cosmic Cliffs and the emerging stars from the Carina Nebula created through curved piecing and color transitions. 🌌 The cover quilt uses @andoverfabrics Century Solids in Black, Cafe au Lait, Cinnamon, Cocoa, Carribean, Sapphire and Navy. This little mini took a few weeks to make. It likely could have taken a few hours under “normal” circumstances. I’m calling it Something Is Very Wrong. Red and gray, geometric and abstract, divided into four quadrants. I started on it as soon as I was cleared to move more after an emergency surgery that turned my world of routine upside down. In the hours before, I knew something was very wrong. I was in agony and I knew it was serious. The urgency of the color and structure, the offset and breaking focus of the quilting. This piece was my attempt to sit with that experience and put it somewhere outside of myself. Making this gave me something to put down in thread, look at and slowly move beyond, knowing I’ll get back to the things I love bit by bit. Now I need your help finishing it.
